Biker Mice From Mars

Hey, you may look at Biker Mice From Mars for the Super Nintendo and laugh and just assume it is a horrible tie in that was all the rage back in the 90s. Truth be told this 1994 SNES release was actually made by the folks at Konami and it is far better than you would think it would be.

Who You Gonna Be?

One of the things that I liked about the series, Biker Mice From Mars was the three main characters. Mono, Vinnie, and Throttle each had their own personality and for me, Vinnie was the most cool and awesome of the group. As you would expect all three of the Biker Mice are here. However, there is also Grease Pit, Lawrence Limburger, and Dr. Karbunkle to play as also. Six characters is a little on the small side I know, but each character has their own stats as well as a special move they can use a few times per race. So, while the roster is small it at least is rather unique.

Wow This Is Fun

Biker Mice From Mars on the Super Nintendo is best described as a combat racing game. You have to win each race and if you do you get money that you can then use to upgrade your bike and weapons in between races. There is more depth here than you would think and while that isometric viewing angle can take a while to get used to, the actual racing is surprisingly fun.

The controls are great and once you get the hang of them you will be zipping around the track, blasting missiles at anyone who gets to close. I was honestly expecting this to be horrible, but the gameplay is fun and challenging. As well as racing, you have to avoid the enemy attacks which helps add strategy to the game. It has that classic 90s Konami quality all over it.

Like The Show

I do not think anyone will ever say that Biker Mice From Mars is one of the best looking or sounding games on the SNES. However, this is Konami we are talking about, 90s Konami so it still looks great and has a rocking soundtrack. The game looks close enough to the show and in all, I am very impressed with the overall presentation that the game has. It would have been so easy for Konami to just crank out a 2D platformer so it is awesome that they took the racing element of the show and built the game around that.

I know that this is a strange game to talk about, but I really do think you could make a case for Biker Mice From Mars on the SNES being a bit of a hidden gem. It is very well made and it is a game that once you get those controls down is very fun and addictive. You could argue that a few more tracks and characters would have been nice. However, if you want to play a SNES game that is a little different from the regular classics, you are in for a good time with this.

This fast-paced game is roaring down the highway straight to the Super NES. Biker Mice From Mars is on the horizon, so you should be on the look out.

This highly addictive racer has a lot going for it - good graphics and a unique game perspective among other things. We had a lot of fun with this one!

Let's Rock and Ride!

This game is much like the recent Street Racer -- you play as one of the main characters, each with their own vehicle and weapon. The vehicles range from a hovercraft to a bike that looks like a bug.

In the Main Race, you compete in rounds against computer-controlled characters on increasingly difficult tracks. Some tracks are simple squares with no obstacles, while others offer hairpin curves, jumps, and rough terrain.

The Battle Race is nearly identical to the Main Race. You cruise the same tracks, but weapons help you battle for a prize-winning finish. The weapons are easy to use, and your bikes handle smoothly through all the races.

Stylin'and Profilin'

The bright colorful backgrounds feature cityscapes, islands vistas, and sewer views. Although the large sprites can sometimes be hard to tell apart, the graphics are generally strong. The sounds vary: There aren't many voices (other than the occasional "Let's rock... and ride!"), but the sound effects (especially the explosions) and music are both good.

Konami included all the elements of a fun racing game in this game: good game play, cool characters, easy control, and variety. The Biker Mice will be taking the checkered flag back to Mars!

The Biker Mice are a whole new breed of spaced-out mammals. Throttle, Vinnie, and Modo's home planet was devastated by the fish-faced Plutarkians. The rodents ran for cover on Earth, and now the Plutarkians have followed. In this racin' game with 3D graphics, you ride as one of the Biker Mice or one of the bad guys. Each racer has different skills and weapons. You can upgrade your bike as you go and race the CPU or a friend in two-player head-to-head action.

Biker Mice from Mars is a game created by Rick Ungar, following the story from the science fiction animated series that began airing in 1993 in the United States and lasted for three seasons before it was cancelled. The game was published for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994 and was created by Konami.

The players take control of Throttle, Modo or Vinie and have to defeat space enemies such as enemies Lawrence Limburger, Dr. Karkunkle and Grease Pit in motorcycle races on different tracks.

The graphics of the game were decent, although lots of other SNES games featured better visuals. Tropical islands and underground sewers can be found in the game and each area has its own specific look that keeps the game fresh throughout the wild rides. The game is presented in a 3/4 style viewpoint, so mode-7 is not used, but this keeps the game look smooth as it scrolls along. The graphics are definitely not cutting edge, but the theme of the game comes along just OK.

There are three basically modes of play. The main race is when the player races against other bikers in order to earn prize money and purchase upgrades for the motorcycle. This allows the player to work his way up the ranks, increase his skills and upgrade the bike, purchase better weapons and compete all the bikers in the game. This is probably the most fun mode.

The second one is battle mode, where the main player takes the other players in an all-out shoot-fest. This makes the game more fun if multiple players are competing in the same time.

The last one if practice mode, which is basically the chance to practice many tracks of the game without any other riders to be there and make it difficult for you. However, the tracks are not very difficult and players shouldn’t need too much practice. The gameplay does not introduce new features, but does a good enough job.

The music in the game is insane, almost as the visual surroundings. The techno-rock sounds do a good job when keeping the up-tempo of the game. Though the voice acting in the game is a little bit overdone, it fits very well in this installment, just like everything else. There could be a bit more variety, because after few hours of playing the music starts to sound familiar, but this is the only gripe.
