The Deli Lama is hosting a tournament and sending out private invitations to each of the participants. Every character has his/her own unique motives for entering and trying to win.

Cute characters with loads of adorable animations fill this new fighting game. Look for tons of special moves and strategy involving the accumulation of Karma. Each character actually becomes a better fighter as he/she continues to win. You will start with a white belt. And if you continue beating other opponents, you will receive a higher ranking belt. Fight against the best in the world for the title.

Crisp graphics, awesome music, and an engaging interface make this game the best of the Brutal series. Above the Claw's leash, however, is reined in by massively difficult gameplay and a super-fast computer A.I.

Long Arm of the Claw

Brutal, which is available for the SNES, Genesis, and Sega CD, has been significantly enhanced for the 32X. You now choose from 12 selectable characters, including former bosses Karate Croc and Dali Llama, and two newcomers, Chung Poe and Psycho Kitty.

GameTek also created real martial arts techniques and philosophies for the characters. For instance, Prince Leon's philosophy is described as Right Effort, and his martial arts style is jah, the Righteous Path.

ProTips:

  • In a one-player game, opponents drain your energy while revitalizing their own. Stop them in mid-recharge with a flurry of hits.
  • Block after every hit you score. The computer comes after you with a vengeance.
  • This great cheat works only for players with a Turbo button on their controller. Select Karate Croc, set the punch to Auto, and comer opponents.

The control is steady, but the computer is the most powerful opponent you've seen in a while. Unfairly, the CPU opponents are given their full range of special moves, while you must earn yours between every two wins.

Unleash the Power

The graphics are spectacular, blending animated scenery and crisp, colorful character sprites. The characters don't exhibit any signs of slowdown, and they move with blazing speed.

The sounds are as enjoyable to listen to as the game is to watch. Bass-driven martial arts funk fuses into speed rock, the likes of which is not often heard in fighting games.

Only real pros need apply to Brutal school. If you think you have the moves to pin down these masterful mammals (and one reptile), then you'll want to unleash this Brutal game.

Brutal: Paws of Fury was a fighting game containing anthropomorphic characters published by GameTek in 1994. An enhanced version, Brutal Unleashed, was made for the Sega 32X in 1995; in 2002, a fan remake, Brutal Remix, was released.

The Brutal storyline was typically banal for its time: Under the watchful eyes of the malicious Dali Lama, twelve (and later fourteen) fighters came to the simply-named Brutal Island to battle for fame, prize money, and recognition.

The gameplay is generally inspired by Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, but with a twist: Players began with only 'basic' moves (move, three attack types, grapple, and taunt), and had to 'learn' new moves by defeating various characters. By the time the player had fought all the way to the final boss (Dali Llama in the original, Karate Croc in Unleashed), he or she had a full repertoire of moves.
