Heads up, sports fans! EA has done the incredible by enhancing their b-ball blockbuster. Lakers vs. Celtics and the NBA Play-Offs, to create Bulls vs. Lakers and the NBA Play-Offs! Does this game look and play like Lakers vs. Celtics? Yes! Is this game BETTER than Lakers vs. Celtics? Yes!

Mo' Teams! Mo' Players! Mo' Features!

Lakers vs. Celtics wowed us by featuring eight of the best NBA teams -- the Lakers, the Trail-blazers, the Spurs, the Suns, the Celtics, the Pistons, the Bulls, and the 76ers -- plus the East and the West All-Star teams. Bulls vs. Lakers ups the team count to 18 by including the aforementioned teams and the Jazz, the Rockets, the Supersonics, the Warriors, the Bucks, the Hawks, the Knicks, and the Pacers! Updated to reflect the 1991 NBA season, Bulls vs. Lakers features all the players of these 16 pro teams, including their on-court abilities and trademark moves and grooves.

Challenge a friend or the Genesis to a single game, or take on the Genesis in a three-round, best-of-seven, 16-team tournament for the NBA Championship! The new Two-Player Co-Op feature enables you and a buddy to team up against the Genesis to determine whether man or machine will rule the courts. As always, you choose 12-, 8-, 5-, or 2-minute periods and pick the level of difficulty ranging from Pre-Season to Show Time! Unlike the real-life Simulation mode, you can also select Arcade mode, where players don't fatigue or foul out. Similar to its predecessor, Bulls vs. Lakers features a password system that enables you to continue tournament seasons with your favorite teams. Also carried over is the ability to monitor your players' fouls, fatigue, performance stats, and the ability to substitute at will.

ProTips:

  • Substitute key players in danger of fouling out. Save them for tire final period!
  • All players' fatigue levels return to maximum after half- time.

The game play and the controls are basically the same as Lakers vs. Celtics. However, several enhancements make this game even more enjoyable: bright, big stars beneath the players you control instead of those hard-to-see black sneakers, instant replay, an always-visible 24-second shot clock at the bottom of the screen, the coach's voice screaming "Shoot the ball!" when the shot clock nears zero, sharper graphics with bigger crowds and courts with home team logos, and better control over free throws.

  • Fast breaks are extremely difficult. Allow your teammates to get into position by waiting behind the half-court line.
  • Tap A once to fake a jump shot and spin around ultra-tight defenders.

Swish!!

Bulls vs. Lakers stands on its own (size 18) feet as a premium sports game for the Genesis. The smooth game play, the excellent graphics, the enhanced level of authenticity, and the plethora of options and features are sure to satisfy sports gamers of all levels and abilities. Bulls vs. Lakers is the class of the Genesis basketball league.

Everything about this title, from the graphics to the sound effects is absolutely top notch. The interaction of the players and the methods that can be used to turn around some incredible places are fully captured in this cart. If you're into basketball and have a Genesis, this is the game you've been waiting for!

Wow! Now this is the type of basketball game that serious players have been looking for! Everything that you liked in Celtics is here and most have been honed to perfection. Great animation, perfect player control and the patented EA instant replay all add to make this the best basketball game to date!

Bulls vs. Lakers is a big improvement over Lakers vs. Celtics! The graphics are better and animated much smoother. The sounds are digitized. There's even the screeching of gym shoes on the court floors! The game play has been improved as well with more controls of the players and bonus features like instant replay.

Alright! This is exactly the type of basketball action I've been waiting for on the Genesis! Smooth graphics, excellent sound effects, rock tight control, and added player statistics are just the thing for an awesome game for video basketball! This is certainly the perfect gift for the B-ball enthusiast of any age.

They're back! The best of the NBA have been put in a game. I'm talkin' Lakers vs. Bulls, the newest basketball simulation from Electronic Arts.

Back in January 1991, I nearly ran out of adjectives praising the excellence of Lakers vs. Celtics, EA's first Genesis basketball game. Hard to believe, but Lakers vs. Bulls looks to be even better!

If It's Tuesday It Must Be Milwaukee

EA has doubled its number of teams. You can now choose from 16, instead of 8. Everyone who made the play-offs in 1991 is represented in this game (Milwaukee, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, New York, Indiana, Detroit, Philadelphia, Portland, Utah, Los Angeles, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, Seattle, and Golden State). As in the original game, this sequel includes the East and West All-Star squads.

Another big improvement is the addition of game stats. Lakers vs. Celtics included each player's season stats, but ignored who was doing what in the current game you were playing. Lakers vs. Bulls keeps a running tally of minutes played, shots attempted and made (both regular buckets and three-pointers), rebounds, and free throws. The only things missing are assists, steals, and blocks. Hey, nobody's perfect!

Like in Lakers vs. Celtics, the superstars in Lakers vs. Bulls have their own special signature moves: Magic Johnson has his finger roll; Charles Barkley has his two-handed gorilla dunk; and Michael Jordan has an assortment of slams. Each star now has more than one move, which adds to the excitement of this game.

With every attempt, Electronic Arts comes a little closer to producing a sports game that is as good as the sport it's trying to emulate. Lakers vs. Bulls could be one giant step closer to perfection. It's so good you'll find yourself reaching for a towel and some Gatorade during time-outs!

And if you think no one will see your heartbreaks, think again. Winning against this kind of competition will take all you've got. And the eagle eyes of the EASN sports teams stay on you all the way.

In one heart-stopping moment, the player leaps. Seemingly suspended in air, he eyes the basket Then, tongue out he flips the ball from right hand to left. Blind Bank. Two points. Championship! It must be the 1991 NBA Playoffs. And now you can face off against moves like these and the patented plays of legends like Bird, Barkley, Isiah, KJ, Clyde and David. It's all part of Bulls Vs. Lakers And The NBA Playoffs for the Super NES.

Representing the best of the best, the game features 16 hot NBA teams plus the 1991 All Stars, each with a full roster and a complete set of accurate stats. Choose any two teams for scrimmage or select one team to enter the playoffs. As a player/coach you 11 have to expertly manage your bench, watching for foul trouble, and skillfully rotate in your second string to give your stars a rest.

And you'd better know the NBA rules. Refs call 10-second backcourt violations, traveling, offensive and defensive fouls. Of course, the 24-second shot clock is in effect-so speed and agility are critical.

It's all part of the hottest basketball game around this or any league. And what will the anchors at EASN this or any be doing? You'll find out at halftime.

Another top-notch sports game from the masters of Genesis sports games. This time, you've got the Bulls, the Lakers, and the rest of the 1991 NBA playoff participants. If you ever wanted to run your favorite NBA squad, this is about as close as you're going to get -- unless you're related to Jerry Buss.

Bulls versus Lakers and the NBA Playoffs was a 1991 video game that was available for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game console. The game was a sequel to Lakers versus Celtics video game using the same engine. Following the same format, the game was named after the two teams that appeared in the NBA finals.

While the NBA's regular season gives players an opportunity to show what they can do, it's in the Playoffs where the champs are separated from the chumps. Now, thanks to Bulls vs Lakers, you can have a hand in who goes home with the championship and who goes home empty-handed. You can play as any of the teams from the 1991 NBA Playoffs and see if you've got what it takes to bring home the hardware. Take advantage of Hardaway's cross-over dribble, Bird's three-point accuracy, or Jordan's all-around clutch play as you try to lead your team to the NBA's Promised Land. If you aren't feeling the competitive juices, play a friendly All-Star game where the East takes on the West, and the defense is secondary to putting on a good show.

The game could be played in various ways: players could play against each other, or against the computer. Games against the computer were divided into two levels, "exhibition" or "playoffs". Players could pick from one of the 16 teams that had gone to the playoffs in the NBA the year before the game was released. Games could be configured for 2, 5, 8 or 12 minute quarters.

Bulls vs. Blazers and the NBA Playoffs Special Features:

  • Features all 16 teams from the 1992 NBA Playoffs
  • East and West All-Stars from the 1992 season
  • Dozens of NBA stars and their signature moves
  • Complete statistics
  • Innovative instant replay feature
