Welcome to the world of Earnest Evans -- high action explorer extraordinaire. Earnest has been commissioned by the president of the United States to retrieve an ancient Paleography inscribed with the bng lost prophecies of an Arab named Abdul Alhazard.

After Earnest finds the Paleography, he discovers that its power has released a destructive god named Hastur. Now he must fight like crazy to subdue Hastur and his many evil followers.

A Traveler's Feast

Earnest Evans doesn't leave you hungry for scenery. There are 10 different surrealistic Stages and each one looks completely different. In fact, this game employs unique Genesis graphics and gameplay. With all of his body parts moving independently of one another, Earnest's sprite looks and maneuvers much like a string puppet.

Once you're behind the controls of this strange and disjointed character, you begin to see hints of Sega's '91 action Genesis thriller, Strider -- a sluggish Strider, that is. Earnest can perform many moves (walking, jumping, crawling, etc.), but he tends to get stuck in mid-motion.

ProTips:

  • To safely and effectively get this monster off your back in Stage Two, crouch in the far right comer and whip the stuffing out of him.
  • You're better off without the power-up icon, which temporarily turns your whip into a mace. If you spot an icon that displays a mace, jump over it.

Whip It Good!

Earnest carries Whipcord, which when powered up turns into a “whip-mace.” Like any long range weapon, the Whipcord's great for tagging enemies, while still maintaining a relatively safe distance. The Whipcord can also be used as a swinging device. Attach it to a hook or a tree branch, and then press the B button.

They Come with the Territory

As you'd expect, there are a variety of pesky beasts in the jungle. None are particularly ferocious, but there's plenty of 'em. So always mind your head and your back. Amidst the monsters, there are also goodies to be had, such as life-restoring medicine. Hats off to Renovation for their graphical programming innovation. It's a shame the game doesn't play as great as it looks. However, in spite of its slightly sluggish gameplay, Earnest Evan's is a decent game. If you're into the Indy-Jones action/adventure style, consider the jungle with Earnst Evans.

While I love the manner in which the lead character moves, those same attributes make the game difficult to control in areas. It has a nice combination of graphics, unknown paths and whip 'em out action, but none of its individual characteristics saves it from being slightly above average all around.

Everything about this game is great. It is challenging, long enough, decent backgrounds, OK audio and good special effects. Where it falls down, and it REALLY falls down, is in the character animation. It's not all that bad, as it only looks bad, it plays as you want it to and there-fore still comes off as a very good game.

Earnest Evans is really impressive when it comes to graphics, but it animates very poorly. When Earnest runs, he looks like a flickering robot. In addition, the controls are very difficult to work. In the end, it just does not seem worth it. I was really looking forward to this one, and I am kind of disappointed.

I'm a dear fan of El Viento, so I was looking forward to playing the prequel, Earnest Evans. While graphically E.E. accomplishes some major feats, it goes overboard with the software rotation. Come on! Your character acts like a robot and controls even worse! At least the music is still Renovation quality. Close call.

Many people would think that a cartridge game would not stand a chance when compared against a game on compact disk, but the cartridge version of Earnest Evans proves to be a worthy counterpart to its CD big brother. You play the role of young Earnest Evans, who is the grandson of the world renowned treasure hunter, Dr. Earnest Evans, who made an appearance in "El Viento." Earnest is sent by his grandfather to continue the quest of years past. Two out of three idols still have not been found and it is up to Earnest to find these idols before they are used by the evil Brady Tresidder to summon a being to destroy Earth and rule the galaxy.

The animation of Evans is smooth and he has plenty of moves at his disposal like climbing ropes, running, crawling and using such weapons as the whip, mace, rocks, grenades, etc. Get set to face an assortment of enemies and natural disasters that will keep you from searching for your goal. Beware of booby traps that can be set off by the slightest touch. Live the adventure of Earnest Evans in this cart!

You are Ernest Evans, expert archaeologist and explorer extraordinaire. You've been asked by the President of the United States to recover the Necromikon, an ancient scripted tablet. You soon discover, however, that this seemingly innocent request is all part of a dastardly plan to resurrect an evil god. This Indiana Jones-style action adventure sends you on a wild, ten level adventure into seamy locations all over the world, including Mongolia, Mexico, and Peru. Armed with a massive whip, you fend off scores of enemies who are also in search of the powerful paleography. Whip your gaming into shape with Ernest Evans.

An Indiana Jones inspired side scroller about a daring adventurer looking for fame and treasure amid the ruins of a lost city deep in the South American jungles.

The story of the game is connected to that of El Viento. Earnest Evans is a brave treasure hunter. His grandfather was a famous archaeologist who searched for three legendary idols in the 1930s. It was said that those idols could bring disaster upon the Earth if fallen into the wrong hands. But despite his efforts, he could never find even one of the idols. Now it's up to the grandson to continue his work, fifty years later. But the evil syndicate leader Brady Tressider has his own plans, and will do anything to stop Earnest...

Earnest Evans is an action platform game in which you control Earnest Evans, armed with his trusty whip. The hero can jump, climb ropes, crouch, and crawl. There are plenty of obstacles on the levels (bottomless pits, spikes, crushing bridges, lava, etc.), as well as gangsters and monsters to dispose of.
