I hope you’re excited for Lilo & Stitch 2, a whacky platformer by Disney that captures most people’s childhoods perfectly. There is a solid chance that you are looking at this title because you played it as a kid and if that’s the case, you care going to be looking down the barrel of an extreme nostalgia kick. Get yourself pumped up to play as both Lilo and Stitch in this zany adventure where you must battle against the evil Hämsterviel.

Gameplay

So, this is primarily a platformer. Much like games like Shrek 2 for the Game Boy or even Castlevania, the majority of the game is jumping around through the levels and defeating a seemingly endless number of enemies and progress through the story. If I can be honest, the story is present but it takes something of a backseat to the gameplay, that is what really drives the whole thing.

As I specified earlier, during the completion of the game you will take control of both Lilo and Stitch as they progress through the levels. Now, I did say primarily a platformer, there are also vehicle sections that I found to be particularly amusing. Playing as Stitch, you blast through along a road and shoot enemies out of the sky in a red beach buggy looking car. These sections in the game are pretty fun and I actually had a really good time with them. That being said, the platforming sections are also satisfying, as the controls are tight and responsive.

Something I also found interesting is that you can take control of some of the other experiments for certain sections of the levels which adds a brilliant depth.

Story

This game follows the titular pair Lilo and Stitch as they attempt to recover the abducted Nani and David. The pair were taken by the evil Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel, a small hamster-like alien with a napoleon complex, and so Lilo and Stitch must give chase and save their loved ones.

The story is pretty bare bones, it’s a Game Boy Advanced title so there isn’t a tremendous amount to follow in regards to what’s going on. You have your brief and that’s that. All the cutscenes are just pictures with words over the top, no voice acting or anything, likely due to the constraints of the medium but if that sort of thing doesn’t bother you then there shouldn’t be any problems.

Visuals

The visuals to this game are about as dated as you would expect. You’re looking at a game that was designed to be played on the Game Boy Advanced, there were only so many pixels in their screens so it’s nothing to write home about but you’ll definitely find it to be satisfactory. It conveys everything that needs to be seen and that’s kind of the best you can ask for.

8

For the time of its creation, this is a perfectly acceptable game. If you are looking for a trip down nostalgia lane or want to play a classic title, you will get a kick out of this.
