In this new RPG, you set forth on a quest filled with puzzles to solve and places to visit. Along the way you must use your reasoning skills to interact with a wide cast of characters who will respond to you with text passages. This new level of communication is supported with an adventure that is straightforward and doesn't rely on dozens of sub-screens, yet remains lively and entertaining throughout.

An interesting variation of the normal RPG, that relies more on graphics to support the quest than similar efforts. The graphics, unfortunately, are nothing revolutionary, but the quest has its high points and the interaction between the game is handled nicely. Nothing sensational.

6

Its been a while since there's been a decent quest game. Link was the last one, and Scheherazade comes along at the right time. Great for the average player, this is a challenging game that makes you think about what you're doing. If you're done with Link get this game.

6

Not the best role-player, but not the worst either. While the quest is a bit unclear, this game, like most RPGs, gets more involving as you progress. It's easy to catch on to the game play but the graphics are only average. If you aren't ready for Ultima, then this may be for you.

The Magic of Scheherazade is no where near as classy looking as other RPGs currently populating store shelves, but it may provide some diversion for game players looking for another adventure to overcome. The game looks cheesy graphically, butt the play isn't that bad. Fans may enjoy some parts of it.

Simply put, Sabaron is a bad magician and you are a good one. The problem is that you can't remember anything, and you don't know how to find Sabaron. To make things worse still, Sabaron has kidnapped your girlfriend, Scheherazade, her sisters and her father, the king. In order to save the king end his daughters, you'll have to travel through five worlds and several time zones, learn magic, enlist the help of a small group of allies and learn the use of swords, magic wands and various spells.

The Magic of Scheherazade is a role playing game, which means basically that you play the main character and that he starts out weak and practically defenseless and gets stronger as you successfully play the game. There are also lots of puzzles in this game, but none of them are extremely hard to solve.

This Arabian adventure spans various towns, forests, lakes, swamps and other natural locations. In the towns, you can talk to the natives to discover clues, visit the shops to buy important items, rest in hotels (to recover your strength) and visit mosques for various purposes (such as resurrecting a dead ally, finding the latest password in case you need to restart the game later or changing your character's class to fighter, saint or magician). You will have to play as each of these character classes at least once during the course of the game. The towns also house special characters and other surprises.

Outside the towns, life is not so easy. Everywhere you go you'll encounter enemies. At first, these enemies are difficult to beat, but you can obtain money and experience points. Later in the game, these outside characters can be a nuisance, so you'll learn a spell that keeps them away.

As role-playing games go, The Magic of Scheherazade is pretty easy. However, it should be fun for beginning and intermediate role players. Experienced players may whip through this game in record time, but there are still enough plot twists and interesting challenges to make the game fun to play. For instance, you can reap a great harvest if you plant a Rupia seed in the past during the Alalart Solar Eclipse (a regularly occurring event in this world), then travel to the future and check out the result.

This game basically occurs in five acts - the water world, the desert world, the winter world, the flower world and the final challenge. Each world has some subtle differences, though the action is basically the same from one level to the next.

Typically, you'll spend some time exploring the countryside, occasionally casting the Oprin spell to reveal hidden doors. You'll use your sword or the magic rod to fight enemies, and you'll make frequent visits to towns to gather information, enlist help or stock up on supplies. Less frequently, you'll explore dungeons or palaces where you'll encounter still more potent enemies. Ultimately, on each level you'll have to meet and defeat a boss character - one of Sabaron's minions. In most cases an all-out, no-holds-barred approach works best.

In some ways, this game may remind you of The Legend of Zelda, but it has its own flavor. It's more involved with quests and subquests than Zelda and more linear. In Zelda, you didn't have to follow a specific path to the end. In Scheherazade, you must complete each section in order if you want to advance.

The Magic of Scheherazade is fun to play - not too difficult but satisfying. Some of the graphics are wonderful (especially the fire demon in Level 4) and overall, they are consistently good. The music and sounds are fine, and the player interface is very good. I found it pretty easy to cruise through, especially with the help that the detailed manual provides. However, the last encounter is a toughie. You'll need good strategy and good reflexes to win and save the world.

Published and developed by Culture Brain Inc., this video game was released in 1989. Sabaron, the evil wizard, was called by a horde of demons to attack Arabia. A fearless magician tried to battle with the wizard, but, unfortunately, has been thrown in the holes of time. The player takes on the role of that brave magician. Traveling throughout various time periods, you must stop Sabaron's cruel plans, to save the young and beautiful princess Scheherazade captured by the wizard.

The game is a mixture of action- and turn-based combat role-playing game styles. Traveling through Arabia, you will come across enemies, fight with them in real time, using various weapons. The magician will also be attacked by the enemies, with whom you will take part in strategic, party-vs.-party combat. There are three character classes you can choose from: Fighter, Saint, and Magician. Each has special skills, used in battles and exploration of the game world.

What more natural source of inspiration for a computer game could there be than the 1001 tales of the Arabian nights? The Magic of Scheherazade isn't a literal retelling, but it does borrow its look, atmosphere, and some of its themes from that classic source. The result is a charming game of almost Byzantine complexity.

Once upon a time, Arabia was ruled by demons. One day, a great magician named Isfa appeared, and he harnessed the power of the blue star Airosche to imprison the demons deep inside the Earth. As the game begins, an evil wizard named Sabaron has begun to unleash the demons once again. It's up to you - the last descendant of Isfa - to save Arabia and rescue the beautiful princess Scheherazade. To make the quest much more difficult, Sabaron has erased your magical powers and hurled you into another time period. Sorting all this out takes time.

In fact, very few Nintendo games take as long to learn as The Magic of Scheherazade - it ranks right up there with Ultima. The number of items, spells, bonuses, allies, subscreens, and so forth is truly massive. Happily, everything is clearly organized, so what at first seems unwieldy soon becomes natural and logical.

Most players will find Scheherazade well worth the time and trouble it takes to learn. For one thing, the graphics are absolutely delightful. There are charming mustachioed brigands who leap out of the shrubbery; colorful djinns and demons; and numerous mosques and town marketplaces to visit. If there's a Nintendo game that's prettier to look at, we haven't seen it.

The monster-hacking in Scheherazade plays a decidedly subordinate role to the magic, and some of the special effects that occur when you cast spells are marvelous to behold.
