Game Reviews

Do you have what it takes to bounce higher than you thought possible? Do you dream of climbing a mountain full of obstacles? Do you like the TV show? If so, Nickelodeon Guts is for you.

You Gotta Have Guts

In Cuts, you're part of the real- life TV show, performing one of six feats. Among them are Elastic Sports, where you bounce through activities in a harness, and Action Sports, where you maneuver on tracks laden with obstacles to beat the clock.

The graphics are merely average, mainly because the repetitive side view lacks variety. The medium-sized sprites and digitized athletes look cool, if not very detailed, but the background audience never moves!

Do You Have It?

The sound in this game lacks guts. The music is pretty basic; you may want to turn it down before it gets tiresome. And the contestants make no noise, even when they fall. At least the roar of the crowd in Elastic Sports is realistic, as is the scorekeeper's voice.

At first, the controls are difficult because each event has a different challenge for you to master. Younger gamers and those with little patience might have a hard time, but practice eventually makes perfect.

It might be best to try out this game as a rental. If it grabs you, strap on your harness, give a yell, and show the world you have Guts!

ProTips:

  • In Elastic Sports shoot at the top of your jump.
  • Don't linger on the Aggro Crag's sliding platforms or you'll fall straight to the bottom.

Viacom's packed a game version of the popular Nickelodeon show into a game. In one- player mode, you train in two action sports and two elastic sports, trying to beat the clock. In the two-player mode, you go head-to-head against another player in action and elastic events. Elastic sports include weird stuff like slam dunking a basketball while you're bouncing on the end of an elastic cord, and action sports feature wacky obstacle courses. The graphics include digitized players from the show.
