Richard Scarry’s magical world of learning comes to life with Richard Scarry’s Busytown: a great title for the youngest players in the family. Players will join the lovable Lowly Worm as they explore the ins and outs of Busytown, an adorable city filled with dozens of different types of animal residents.

As far as interactive edutainment titles go, Richard Scarry’s Busytown has everything that a young player needs to fall in love with the intricate world of gaming. The animation might be a bit lackluster, but the sheer charm and positive messages will have any parent or older sibling ready to keep playing with the younger members of the family.

The World of Busytown

One of the nicest things about the whole Richard Scarry series of edutainment titles is just how gleefully beautiful the world of Busytown is. Everything from the lush greenery to the colorful animals to the bright buildings all come together in one of the most pleasing environments around. There are even hidden Easter eggs scattered throughout the world, so parents and children alike can enjoy discovering them on their own.

This particular entry in the Busytown series plays similarly to the popular Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside titles. However, more than a point-and-click edutainment adventure, Richard Scarry’s Busytown is actually something of a virtual playground for kids. As such, it's best enjoyed by very young players who will still find the colorful scenarios and simple puzzles entertaining.

Most of the mini-games in Richard Scarry’s Busytown will have the player helping the residents of the town working on their daily chores. Of course, this being an edutainment activity center, most of the mini-games also have a lesson behind them. In addition to teaching basic lessons in reading and math, the games also encourage children to recognize animal sounds and identify colors.

Quality Presentation

It would be quite easy to disregard Richard Scarry’s Busytown as yet another low-effort activity center for very young tots. However, the game truly shines when it comes to its overall presentation, including some nifty voice acting and impressive animations for its time.

From the way the characters talk to the unique look of each animal, there is no doubt that Richard Scarry was fully invested in creating a believable world for the player to lose themselves in.

While it might not offer the same as games like Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo in terms of entertainment, the colorful world of Busytown is perfect for very, very young players to discover the joys of gaming from an early age. The fact that they will also learn some real-life assignments and problem-solving skills in the process is just a bonus at this point.

Overall, Richard Scarry's Busytown is a surprisingly high-quality educational title that offers plenty of content to keep both parents and children entertained for hours on end. While it may not look or sound as nice as other titles of its type, it's hard to argue with its simplicity and wide appeal.
