Here comes Yogi and it's about time. I loved Yogi Bear when I was a child and thought there should be a video game starring him. Well, it's finally here and it has brought back a lot of memories. Play as Yogi Bear as he fights to keep his forest from being taken over by a bunch of building bureaucrats. From the snow filled mountains to the fish infested lakes, you must help Yogi. This game is similar to Mario in that you must jump on your enemies to defeat them as well as collect all the items. Everyone who loves Yogi or Boo-Boo Bear should try this game.

This game is all about points. How many items can you grab and creatures can you jump on and scare away? Points for jumping on the picnic baskets are collected progressively so the more baskets you jump on, the more points you get. The other points are scored at the end of the level when all the picnic baskets, clocks, and special items of that level are tallied up for a grand total. Each level has a different special item that you must collect to earn the points. So make sure you identify that special item and grab as many as possible.

THE GOOD

It is great to finally see my childhood hero come to life on the Super NES.

THE BAD

There are no passwords or continues, making this game very frustrating.

THE UGLY

Just think of how Yogi smells after coming out of the water. Blech, wet bear!

Game Reviews

Hanna Barbera's thirty-something cartoon character will appear in new movies, comics, and TV shows next year. First, though, comes a starring role in this pleasant, attractive SNES game for the younger Jellystone Park campers.

Bear Necessities

Hop-n-bop action doesn't get much simpler than this. As Yogi, you side-scroll through Jellystone Park in search of Pic- a-nic baskets. Nonthreatening cartoon enemies (such as snowmen and skunks) stand between you and a reunion with Ranger Smith and Boo Boo.

Did we say simple? You steer with the directional pad, duck flying foes, and jump. This simplicity clearly makes Yogi a nice pal for novices, but expert players won't be able to bear it for very long.

Hey, Hey, Hey!

Yogi's smarter than the average bear because he's smart enough to live in such an attractive park. Jellystone is a beautiful forest filled with colorful vegetation, large sprites, and lush multi-scrolling backgrounds.

The sounds add further delights. Each level boasts swingin' big-band jazz tunes, and humorous boings and zooms come straight from cartoonland. More voices and some noises from the enemies would've made this a true audio sensation.

Still, Yogi's game is worth renting, even if you beat it fairly quickly. It's as enjoyable as a picnic in the park.

Yogi runs, jumps, collects stuff and bends over in this very boring game that was rendered gutless due to licensing restrictions placed on the developer by Hanna-Barbera. If you're a little kid, you might, repeat, might like this.

In pursuit of the prized Picnic Basket, Yogi Bear appears on the British Super Nintendo. This enchanting quest stars Yogi; Boo Boo, the Ranger, and a whole cast of other familiar characters.

Collect items, like the picnic baskets, to acquire points and extra lives. The game play is similar to the Mario games. It has fluid animation and a lot of hidden things to find.

If you are a fan of the Hanna Barbara cartoons, Yogi Bear will appeal to you. It's funny, to say the least.

When a chemical plant is in the plans for Jellystone Park, the classical Yogi Bear sets out to show he is smarter than the average bear as he strives to keep the plant building from taking place. As the player controls Yogi, he explores five areas of the famous park while searching for his favorite past time of picnic basket snatching. As the legendary character moves along in the game, he must watch out for evil skunks and other enemies wanting to send Yogi into early hibernation. Try out the beaver surfing and mine cart as Yogi takes a side-scrolling adventure to prevent the destruction of his home. This family oriented, single player platform was a 1994 release by GameTek and developed by Empire Interactive. This lively, animated video game is appropriate for all ages.
