No, this isn't a game about Bill Clinton. Bubba's a gawky, bare-footed delivery dude who struggles to overcome bizarre obstacles (Clinton, on the other hand, doesn't make deliveries). If he's going to prevent aliens from invading Earth, Clinton...uh, Bubba has to use his brain, not his brawn, to solve the perplexing puzzles that are around every weird corner on the aliens' wacky planet. Strategy fans will like the mental workout, but action lovers might wish Bubba had a little more muscle.

Stixy Situation

Although he seems like a doo-fus, Bubba's smart enough to team up with the formidable Stix, an amazing animated stick. Stix is the key to the game's imaginative game play. Of course, Bubba can simply bop enemies with Stix, but he can also use Stix as a lever to fling boulders around, insert Stix into holes to create an instant platform, use him like a pool cue, breathe through him like a snorkel, and even use him for balance while tight-rope walking. The seemingly unlimited possibilities for Stix and the easy controls that send him winging into action give this brain- twisting game an enchanting dimension other puzzlers lack.

ProTips:

  • In Waldo's Starship, flick the switch to the left to get an alien, and then lead him to the pipe. Bash him into it and use him as a trampoline.
  • After using Stix as a snorkel in the Marine Temple, use him to turn this switch to raise the gate on the right.
  • In the Volcano, toss Stix, and he'll fly behind the boulder, knocking it toward you for use as a platform.
  • While jumping, fling Stix at this Alien Forest boulder. It'll mash the alien on the right and ricochet back toward you.

The colorful graphics also add to the game's charm, though there's nothing here you haven't seen before. The bumbling Bubba, imaginative enemies, and alien landscapes could fit right into the Saturday-morning cartoon lineup, but it would've been nice to see some big bad bosses within each level. The zingy sound effects and percolating music create an appropriate sonic environment for the cartoony alien-world action. All that's missing are the goofy voices and alien roars that would've nicely complemented the humorous graphics.

Throw Stix into the Spaceport's security system -- he'll get zapped, and you can proceed safely.

Bubba 'N' Kicks

Don't be fooled by the cheerful, innocent surface of Bubba 'N' Stix. Dozens of thought-provoking challenges are spread over the game's five levels, so you'd better be dedicated. Fortunately, passwords make it easy to try again. And Stix gives you plenty of reasons to continue, because you'll find yourself wanting to see what he'll do next. You ain't ever had a friend like him.

Game Reviews

OK everybody, here comes a game with big time personality! It's Tengen's Bubba 'N Stix for the Sega Genesis. This cart is definitely unique.

You play the part of Bubba, a hapless youth who uses his friend Stix to get himself out of some rather interesting predicaments. Stix is a stick (duh!) which can be used for several different purposes. Among these are killing enemies, climbing walls, turning over boulders and other wild stuff! Bubba 'N Stix is not all fun and games (wow, what a hideous pun!). Your adventure is filled with hidden dangers. For one thing, there are enemies everywhere! Use Stix to dispatch these creatures quickly. Also, you must discover ways to cross various obstacles by using Stix. This is a game with a learning curve!

Bubba 'N Stix is a very unusual game that offers gamers big fun wrapped in a small package.

This is an interesting way to make a puzzle game. At first it seems like an action cart, but it's much more than that. The attention to detail is really good. The graphics are nothing to sneeze at. The puzzles are intelligent and well thought out. The music and sounds are standard Genesis fare, but at least they're not annoying. Bubba 'N' Stix is a cool game that should rattle the brains of the most diligent gamer.

OK, I'm not one to bag a puzzle game but this one is just too hard! If you're use to puzzle games like Lemmings or Troddlers (like I am) you're in for a surprise. The concept seems quite original and will take some time to get use to. The game plays decent enough and the sounds are pretty cool as well. Once you get going through the game, you'll find it is a real treat and one of the more original titles you'll see all year.

When I started playing this game, I have to say that it was a bit frustrating, because the control was a bit weak. But after giving it a chance, I found that B&S is actually not a bad game. It is a unique combination of an action and a puzzle game. I like the graphics which are colorful and somewhat detailed. Cool sounds too! There are even some comical animations of the main character. Cool and original!

For puzzle game fanatics and action game lovers, here comes a game with the best of both worlds. Bubba 'N' Stix has some nifty features that make it stand out beyond the crowd with its challenging game play, great sounds, and nice play control. The puzzles can really get tough (even the first level is pretty hard), but if you have your heart set on a new puzzle game, Bubba 'N' Stix should please.

You will have to figure out many mind-bending puzzles using Stix in many different ways. You can throw him, place him in a hole to use him as a ladder, or in a combination of moves that will get you out of a tight spot. Also foil the comical attempts by the aliens to kidnap you back. Good luck to you and Bubba!
