Cadash by Working Designs is one of the best "rescue-the-princess" games you'll ever see, mainly because by the time you're five minutes into it you won't give a rip about the princess, where she is, or even who she is. But for your information, who she is Princess Sarasa of the land of Deerzar and some bad guy named Baarogue bagged her. In fact, Baarogue could have kidnapped an elephant, and you'd still wanna' play this game.

Fantasy Campers

Cadash is a sideview, horizontally scrolling sword and sorcery game for one or two players that's made the trip from the arcades. It isn't organized into levels per se, although you face seven boss creatures. Instead, the game allows you to move back and forth through different areas. In fact, backtracking to re-question townspeople is critical.

To begin, you pick one of four characters: the strong Fighter, who's quick with his sword; the Mage, who casts awesome spells; the Priest, who whips a wicked Rail (a mace on a long chain) and casts healing white magic; and the su-per-quick Ninja, who tosses shurikens like mad. As in any RPG, this quest crew builds up skill levels -- Strength, Armor Class, Agility, Hit Points, and Magic Points -- as they vanquish monsters.

ProTips:

  • The Mage can cook... literally, As his Levels increase he learns spells that enable him to toss fireballs and set the ground ablaze.
  • Leave that Turbo switch up on your weapons! If you're playing the Ninja, slide both switches up. Hold down both buttons and press the directional pad in the direction you want to move. You'll wipe out bad guys before they get close.

Three Games in One

Cadash is a unique blend of RPG, quest, and arcade action -- practically three games in one. You explore towns to get clues about the terrain ahead, heal your wounds, and buy better weapons (50 different kinds go on sale). Then, in the caves, you fight off disgusting blobs, sword-swinging skeletons, web-spitting spiders, club-toting pigmen, and 26 other nasty critters.

To defeat the first blob boss the Mage can use two blasts of the Sword Spell, and the Priest can use diagonal blasts from her Flail.

No Continues? No Way!

Yes way. One life and no continues! Cadash is rough, however, if you had continues, it would be your worst video nightmare: The- Game-That's-Too-Easy-And-Cost-You-Sixty-Bucks! Without the continues, you've got a great game with great challenge.

Power up in the first round! Pound on the easy bad guys until you max out your levels. Enter me first cave, descend to the second floor, head left, and then pick-off the pigmen. They keep coming as long as you don't cross the water. Then at the next town, the M.D. maxes your energy.

Cadash Is Magic

Cadash is the best thing to show up for the TurboGrafx-16 in a while. Its crisp, realistic graphics look like Legendary Axe II's, and some bosses are huge. However, the sounds and music are anemic, but not fatal.

Cadash is a unique, well-balanced blend of action and RPG that will stay fresh for months to come -- even if you've gotta' rescue some tired ol' princess babe. It's the journey, man, not the destination.

Game Reviews

The best conversion of the Taito Coin-op, featuring one-or two-player simultaneous play and four characters to choose from. The game's pretty dated, but fun can be had if you don't mind the retro feel. This was one of my favorites back in its day and it still evokes pleasant memories.

The Assault Of Balrog Has Come!

A long time ago, there existed two forces in this world - Good and Evil (really!). Unfortunately, the attitudes of the creatures belonging to the dark side did not coincide with the sweet and kind intentions of the good side. Therefore, as a final solution to the disputes between them, the evils went to another universe and good stayed in its place.

Well, after years of evolution - the dark eyes of the evil empire enviously gazed upon the successes of the empire of goodness and were led by King Balrog to invade and take over the kind people of the world!

If you have not realized it at this point, you (alone or with a friend) must destroy the vile Balrog before his fist clenches around the entire world! You have a choice between two characters - the warrior or the wizard. Both have their strengths and weaknesses - but you will need all of the power you can muster to defeat the evil attempting to destroy the good world's peaceful existence!

The levels are divided into two stages - first there is a "human world" where towns and shops are, and then there are the underworlds where the creatures and bosses are waiting. Make sure to power-up on your experience, or you may have one heck of a game on your hands!

Turbo fans will soon be treated to the latest, side-scrolling, action game. Cadash pits you in a struggle against an invasion of demons from the underworld. This cart offers a variety of characters that you can choose from as well as non-stop action!

Cadash made its way from the arcades to the TG-16, and now it's on its way for the Genesis. A unique blend of role play, quest, and arcade style action, Cadash features sideview horizontally scrolling sword and sorcery for two players. You choose between four characters -- Fighter, Mage, Priest, and Ninja -- who must battle to save a princess -- again. But, hey, it's the journey, man, not the destination!

Trouble is in the kingdom of Dilsarl: the young, beautiful princess Salasa was abducted by the evil arch-mage Balrog! The king seeks help by the four best warriors of the country. Your task is clear, but not so simple: find Balrog, destroy his evil minions and other monsters who try to stop you, and rescue the princess!

Cadash is a platform action RPG. You choose one of the four character classes in the beginning of the game: fighter, priestess, mage, or ninja. You fight your way through dungeons, attacking physically or casting spells (as priestess or mage). Like in regular platform games, there are places where you should jump, duck, or climb. You gain experience for defeating monsters, and your level rises in a true RPG fashion.
