Yikes, talk about a thrown together sequel, Chicken Shoot 2 is not one of the all time classics that is on the Game Boy Advance. I guess that the first game was a decent gallery style shooter and had its charm. It clearly did well enough to get a sequel, but calling this a sequel is a real stretch as it is pretty much the exact same game that we got before. It is also the kind of game that you can see all of what it has to offer in about 15 minutes and that is no exaggeration, if anything I might be being a tad kind!

Those Pesky Chickens

The “plot” of Chicken Shoot 2 is that the chickens are running wild and causing all kinds of chaos and only you can stop them. At the end of the day, this is a Game Boy Advance shooting gallery style of game so you do not expect a deep and meaningful story here. However, despite it being very shallow, I will say that on the whole, I do feel that the game has a bit of charm to its premise.

Choking Those Chicken

Ok, so there is no choking the chicken here…. Sorry, we have the mental age of a 13 year old, but if you got that joke, we bet it put a smile on your life. Anyway, the gameplay of Chicken Shoot 2 is that the screen scrolls from left to right (and one that goes up and down) and you need to shoot all of the chickens. You control a crosshair on the screen which is responsive to be fair. As well as shooting the chickens, you also need to shoot the eggs that they throw at you. It is best to take out the eggs first as they can actually damage you!

Great For 1983!

What I just described about the gameplay of Chicken Shoot 2 is pretty much all the game has to offer! There are a handful of different boards and in that way, it feels like a classic arcade game like Donkey Kong, although putting this game and Donkey Kong in the same category is one hell of a stretch. The point I am making is that you clear a board, move on to the next one, clear that, and then move on to the final one. Once you are done it all repeats, this kind of thing was fine in the 80s, but here it just feels like a huge lack of content.

At Least It Is Funny

I will say that I do get a kick out of the chickens in Chicken Shoot 2. The game actually has a lot of personality and while it is never going to be in the mix for being classed as one of the best looking Game Boy Advance games of all time. I do feel that there is a certain charm to this game and a few of the animations did give me a chuckle from time to time. The problem is, you see all the visuals in those first ten minutes, and then it all just repeats over and over again!

5

I would not say that Chicken Shoot 2 is a terrible game, but it so similar to the first game that if this were to be released in this day and age, it would probably have just been some DLC for the first game as it is so similar. If you liked the first game, you will probably have fun with this, for ten to twenty minutes as that is all it takes to see everything that this game has to offer. Again, it is not a bad game, but there is just not much to it.

Pros:

  • The chickens are fun
  • The crosshair is pretty responsive
  • It has a bit of an old-school charm to it
  • You can make many choke your chicken puns as you play

Cons:

  • You can literally see all this game has to offer in just ten minutes
  • It is exactly the same game as the first one!
