The original Fireteam Bravo delivered an excellent tactical shooter for the PSP, something that has proven difficult to achieve on a portable. Moreover, it provided some engaging multiplayer elements making it one of the best PSP action titles to date. Fireteam Bravo 2 doesn't tinker with the original formula much; instead it makes some minor improvements and adds some new content to be one of the best PSP shooters available.

Fireteam Bravo 2 takes place entirely in the fictional country of Adjikistan parallel to the events of SOCOM: Combined Assault on the PS2. Your 14 mission campaign will take you to a wide variety of settings, from snowy mountainsides to old industrial complexes. Interestingly you'll occasionally run into missions that directly overlap with those from Combined Assault. If you choose to sync the data from both games, you'll find that your performance in one game can change how a mission plays out in the other. While not exactly a genre changing idea, it's a neat concept to see in action.

Fireteam Bravo 2 plays much like its predecessor, putting you in the shoes of one half of a two man fireteam. You'll generally have the option of tackling missions through stealth or raw firepower. The gunplay is handled through a lock on system, which sidesteps the normal issues of trying to do precision aiming on a portable. Another interesting and well executed idea is the command equity and local influence system. By completing side objectives you gain command equity which allow you to call in supply drops and air support.

On the flip side you get local influence for saving civilians and generally helping the populace which in turn can be used to get black market weapons and intel. Together, the systems add a meaningful and immediately rewarding layer to the gameplay. As would be expected from a SOCOM game, Fireteam Bravo 2 has a strong multiplayer element for up to 16 players. 12 maps, 7 modes, leader boards, friends lists and support for the PSP microphone make this a very compelling package on its multiplayer content alone.

Fireteam Bravo 2 looks and sounds almost exactly like its predecessor. The game sports detailed character models and environments along loud and immersive sound effects. It also unfortunately can bog down with framerate issues from time to time, and while these instances don't last long, they certainly detract from the overall presentation.

All and all Fireteam Bravo 2 is a solid sequel that isn't leaps and bounds better then its predecessor, but improves upon it in appreciable ways. If you're looking for a good shooter for the PSP this is definitely a game to look into.
