Ben 10 is a TV show dear to the hearts of kids who grew up between the mid-2000s to the early 2010s. During its extended run, different art styles, Aliens and plots have been presented to its audience. It’s like every form of Ben 10 has its own set of dedicated fans. This game is based on the Omniverse iteration of Ben 10’s story. Naturally, a different cast of characters are in charge. Regardless, it still keeps the classic Ben 10 charm and any devoted fan of the franchise will enjoy the experience.

Story

In Ben 10 Omniverse, things take place within two different timelines. You get to control the original Ben Tennyson and 16-year-old ben from the Alien Force and Ultimate Alien iterations. Thanks to Ben’s exploration of the Omnitrix’s potential, he causes the main villain of the game ‘Malware’ to absorb his watch which leads to the events of the game. Malware decides to mess with time and this forces you to use young Ben and old Ben to defeat Malware to fix the timeline.

Malware has the ability to absorb technology as a way to boost his abilities. During the story, you can control Ben and 16 different aliens. However, Ben’s sidekick Rook is an essential part of the gameplay, and he can switch between the different timelines.

Gameplay

Playing Ben 10: Omniverse, your gameplay is basically a hack and slash experience. However, the game tries to spice things up with some puzzle-solving elements to keep you thinking during its otherwise simple mechanics. Ben 10: Omniverse allows you to fluidly switch between the various alien forms. Each alien offers its own unique twist to the experience. Four Arms allows you to climb walls, Wild Mutt allows you detect enemies through his keen sense of smell. By using the d-pad, you can intuitively switch between the Aliens of your choice.

The Omnitrix has its battery depletion added as a game mechanic that limits the use of each alien. Aliens like Gravattack can deal insane amounts of damage in exchange for faster battery draining. Therefore, you need to be strategic with the way you use your abilities in Ben 10: Omniverse. For damage focused aliens, it’s better to use them when you are in a pinch with loads of enemies surrounding you.

Enemies

In Ben 10: Omniverse, you can fight a few bosses which are decent. There isn’t much in terms of variety, so the game tries to amp up your fights with quick time events. Fighting characters like Dr. Animo will offer some interesting strategies but generally, the enemies are not diverse. In a nutshell, it’s just spiders and mobs of regular dudes. Over time, they do get some upgrades to add a challenge.

Co-Op

In Ben 10: Omniverse, you can play through the game with Ben as your player controlled character and Rook controlled by an AI or a player 2. Unfortunately, the AI Rook is pretty useless and a chore to log around. Jumping over platforms with AI Rook behind you makes things extremely frustrating to do. The camera work of the game is extremely shoddy, so you are better off with a player 2 that knows how to work around the weaker parts of the game.

Pros

  • Diverse set of aliens
  • Great co-op

Cons

  • No replayability
  • Shoddy controls
  • Weak level design

Ben 10: Omniverse offers a great experience for kids and devout Ben 10 fans, but there is nothing to see here for pretty much everyone else.

Game Reviews

The Ben 10: Omniverse game is a great way to keep all the kids in your family entertained. It's a team-based action game, which means you can play with up to two people simultaneously. There are 11 levels, and each level has a different mission that needs to be accomplished. The characters are likable and include Ben's friends, enemies, and family. You can choose from one of two modes: single-player or multiplayer. If you complete all of the missions in single-player mode, you unlock new worlds!

Story

This game is entertaining in many ways. You can play with friends. Player one will always be in control of the main hero Ben, while player two will control Rook, his partner. The point is that it's a team-based game, making it fun to play with people you know. Even though the game has a multiplayer mode, and it is enjoyable, you can also play the game by yourself and still have a fantastic time.

Gameplay

The game contains eleven levels, which isn’t a lot, but if you buy it for the DS or 3DS, there are eighteen levels. Sadly in the main game, you can’t control characters other than Ben and Rook. The game is a delightful gaming experience, but the fact that there aren’t a lot of worlds in some of its versions is kind of sad. So if you don’t have in on your DS and 3DS, you will only be able to play through eleven levels, and then you’re done with the game.

The story in Ben 10: Omniverse is interesting, especially for those fans of the cartoons. Because of a malfunction in Ben’s Omnitrix, his new partner Rook is sent to the past and ends up meeting with Ben from that time, who was eleven years old. They end up fighting, and Malware appears and absorbs Rook’s proto-tool, which ends up creating a new future. So it is up to you to play as both past and future Ben and stop Malware.

Conclusion

Overall, Ben 10 Omniverse is a great game to play. It's fun because it's team-based and has many worlds. That being said, some things could be better about this game. First of all, the controls are not very intuitive and can be confusing for children who may not have played other games with similar controls before. Second of all, the combat system leaves something to be desired; it feels clunky at times and doesn't flow well from one attack sequence into another when you're fighting multiple enemies at once with different types of powers or abilities than those your character possesses (which happens more often than not).

Lastly, some minor bugs in this game make playing it frustrating sometimes (e.g., getting stuck on walls or obstacles). If you're looking for fun but want something more challenging than normal games might offer, I highly recommend giving Ben 10: Omniverse a try!

Pros

  • Plenty of aliens for you to play as
  • Great bosses

Cons

  • Weak story
  • Fewer levels on specific versions
