I Wanna Be the Boshy

I was a huge fan of the game, I Wanna Be the Guy, so when I heard that there was a fan game based on that game, but with popular streamer, Boshytime, I was all over it.

Free!!!!

Let me start right away by telling you the good news, I Wanna Be the Boshy is a free game. You do not have to spend a penny to play this and that right away makes this well worth playing at least once.

So Much Fan Service!

You know how the movie Ready Player One features a ton of fan service and you always wonder what kind of reference it was going to throw your way next? Well, you can amplify that to about a level 100 with I Wanna Be the Boshy. Each level has its own theme and is based around some old school video game. Now you, of course, have your staples like Mario, Sonic and so on, but I love ho obscure this game gets. From a boss fight with a giant and evil Hello Kitty to my personal favorite, The Cheetah Men! How on earth does someone thing to put the Cheetah Men in a game like this? Well, I am glad they did and I Wanna Be the Boshy is full of fun Easter eggs like this that will make you smile…… before making you cry.

Do You Have The Skills?

There is a reason that I Wanna Be the Boshy is so popular with streamers. It is super tough! This is a platform game where you have to move at 100 miles per hour. This is a platforming game that pretty much gives you no time to think. It is all about your reactions and how quick you can react to what is happening. You have to have one eye on what is right in front of you and the other eye on what is coming next. It really is tense stuff and there is a lot of trial and error here. What I think shows how good this game is, is the way that it can be very frustrating, but the game is so much fun you think that if you have just one more try, you will get past that section which has seen you die 2 thousand times. I would say that the gameplay feels like a cross between Super Meat Boy and Super Ghouls & Ghosts so that right there tells you what a tough time you are in for.

I had such a great time with I Wanna Be the Boshy and let me tell you that you do not have to know anything about Boshytime to have fun with this game. The constant barrage of video game references never gets old and you are genuinely always wondering what the heck is coming next. From Street Fighter, Hello Kitty, Super Mario, Castlevania and many more. Plus the platforming action is awesome! If you think you are a master platformer, you need to play this game to really put your skills to the test.

Pros:

  • Awesome video game references
  • Platforming is actually very tight
  • You never know what is coming next
  • Great to play with your friends
  • It is frustrating and fun at the same time

Cons:

  • It is very addictive
  • You will always want to have just one more go

Game Reviews

I Wanna Be the Boshy is by far one of the most challenging platforming games ever created, with levels that must've been designed specifically to enrage players. As an homage to a popular creator, this fangame contains many inside jokes and references, while providing a tough adventure for players to tackle. Playing as a small warning sign with a gun, you'll venture through several levels as you hop and shoot past obstacles, leading up to brutally hard boss fights. I Wanna Be the Boshy will test your platforming skills and push your patience to the limit, as only the best players will be able to complete this ultra-challenging experience.

Main Game Features

  • Incredibly tough platforming gameplay
  • Recognizable bosses from popular games
  • Four difficulty options

Story

I Wanna Be the Boshy doesn't have a conventional story, but instead is a nonstop thrill ride of gaming references and jokes in the form of a platformer. Playing as the small hero Boshy, equipped with his trusty pistol, you must complete the 12 worlds in the game. Each of the worlds is based on a classic video game and includes characters, music, and graphics from some of the best games of all time. For example, after the tutorial and intro world, you'll battle through a brightly colored world based on Kirby's Adventure. Other iconic games like Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, and Mega Man are represented, as well as some indie games as well.

Along your journey, there are several bosses who look to halt your progress, but some are more frightening than others. While the first boss, Hello Kitty, is laughably easy for any skilled fangame player, later bosses like Ryu, Solgryn, and Ganon are very tough. However, it's easy to continue trying time and time again, as the music is always catchy and restarting after death is instantaneous. The ultimate objective is to defeat the final boss and complete Boshy's quest for victory, becoming a glorious hero along the way.

Gameplay

I Wanna Be the Boshy is a pure 2D platforming action game, where your jumping skills and ability to quickly shoot will determine your success or failure. Most of the levels contain incredibly tricky jumps and loads of spikes to dodge, which require precise jumping and lots of practice. Usually, Boshy can only jump once before touching the ground, but if you collect a blue crystal in the air, you can extend your jump even further. Unfortunately, you only have one health point, so you have to complete a section perfectly before moving on. Early levels will help you get familiar with the game mechanics, but it's not long before you're left to figure things out for yourself. In addition to jumping, players can also shoot their pistol, which defeats certain enemies, removes obstacles, and activates switches.

The highlight of many levels in I Wanna Be the Boshy are the boss fights, which are usually tough as nails. Bosses are usually a bullet hell style battle, where dozens of bullets and overpowered attacks fill the screen, forcing you to dodge while dealing out attacks of your own. Some bosses can take hours to finish, as you must memorize the patterns and make adjustments at super fast speeds. There are also collectible chests to find, which unlock bonus character skins and extra content. If you find the experience too difficult, or want to amp up the challenge even more, there are four different difficulty options to consider. If you want to earn all of the game's achievements, you'll have to beat the bosses on the hardest difficulty, while also discovering the four secret worlds scattered throughout the normal levels.

Conclusion

I Wanna Be the Boshy is a platforming game that proudly displays its difficulty, challenging even the most talented gamers with its brutal level design and crazy bosses. Even though the game can be very frustrating due to the high amount of failure, it's easy to keep coming back, since there are loads of checkpoints and some great unlockable content.
