Jurassic Park 2 reminds me of a combination of Alien 3 and Contra. The action is nonstop and the audio and graphics are superbly done (especially the intro). The scenery gets a bit repetitive, but the missions are all pretty cool. The Two-player Mode is really nice. At first it seems like there are a lot of instant hits, but once you know the play mechanics, you'll go far. Overall, I highly recommend this one.

It's good, but certainly not what I wanted. JP2 has been relegated to the role of a basic run-and-shoot game. While this may appeal to some, it certainly won't bode well with fans of the original adventure-type game, like myself. Another major gripe is the fact after you kill an enemy and leave the screen, they're back again when you return. On the good side, the music is great and the number of weapons is a plus.

Hey! Pretty cool opening cinema! It's too bad I didn't care much for the rest of the game. Jurassic Park 2 needs a little boost in excitement because this game hardly offers any. The colors are dull and drab and the music may lull you to sleep. Although there are many missions to complete, they all lack variety and seem to be the same thing. The play control is okay, but needs a little work. Just slightly above average.

This is a decent side-scrolling game, but after falling for the adventure version, it doesn't have the same impact. As an action game, it does have tons of weapons and dinos to destroy. However, it doesn't really excel over other games in this category. The graphics are about average. The missions and interface are pretty cool. Fans of the movie will dig it, but overall, it's only above average.

Game Reviews

Just when you thought everything was back under control at Jurassic Park, an evil organization known as Biosyn attempts to seize control of the island by brute IP force! Now it's up to you (and a friend) to keep the land from utter chaos! I really enjoyed the beautiful backgrounds that scrolled throughout this game as well as the blood-curdling screams of the Raptors on the island. This game is both very involving and just plain fun to play, which seem to be a rarity these days. Grab a friend and welcome to Jurassic Park! Well, II that is!

THE GOOD

This game combines the fun of the first adventure with a Contra-Blackthorne style of action.

THE BAD

Some of the hits you must take to advance in certain levels.

THE UGLY

Even thinking of trying to stop a T-Rex single handedly.

Return to the theme park gone crazy. Alan Grant is once again on the island of Isla Nubar. It seems that a rival corporation has appeared to swipe Jurassic Park away from the proper authorities. Their purpose is to steal all the technological advancements and DNA samples.

Jurassic Park II is a side-scrolling adventure with really cool levels using the Super NES's special effects. The opening cinema is great. It's animated, and even has a clear-sounding voice. The audio is in Dolby SurroundSound. The graphics are great and are a vast improvement over the first cart. JP2 is an adventure like no other.

This game looks and plays great! Unfortunately, there's not much of anything new going on here. You can be either Dr. Grant or a Velociraptor. Wow, big surprise! If you want real dino-blasting action, stick with the original Jurassic Park!

Why can't men and dinosaurs just get along? That's right - the fifth Jurassic Park game to come out in the last year for the 16-bit platform is here, and you don't get to shoot that miserable Barney in any of em.

Jurassic Park II - The Chaos Continues (which is now gonna be known as JPII for obvious reasons) is the sequel to the best dinosaur shooting game yet, Jurassic Park for the SNES. JPII looks and plays great, but is a definite let-down from the varied action of the original. You go back to the island and have to complete six long, tough missions in order to restore order.

One or two players can join in on the mass carnage of dinosaurs and evil humans. A wide variety of weapons and enemies makes each mission different and keeps you playing.

The rich graphics put you right in the jungle and the screeching dinosaurs send chills up your spine. However, none of the original levels of the first are here and it's basically a side-scrolling shooter. JPII looks and plays like a Prince of Persia on steroids, which would be great if we weren't expecting more.

Jurassic Park II: The Chaos Continues doesn't have much in the way of innovation, but it looks and plays just as good as any game of its kind. So, if I you've gone dino-nutty or just love solid dinosaur blasting action, JPII is a fine blast from the past.

Jurassic Park Under New Management

What'dya think, they'd just die off?

Wrong. This time the dinosaurs own the park. And there are tons of them - literally. Including those too nasty for the big screen.

And guess who gets to go in and play Mr. Ice Age... We'll give you the weapons, you do the rest.

Oh, and one more thing: It's been a year since "the attractions" have had a really good meal.

Enjoy your visit!

Just when you thought it was safe to delve into genetic engineering again, Jurassic Park 2 comes along. Filled with standard platform action (but awesome sound and music), JP 2 isn't quite ready for extinction.

Dino Sore

John Hammond is having some trouble in the Park. It seems that Bio Syn, the company that hired Nedry to steal embryos, has invaded the island. Now Hammond wants Dr. Grant to return to Isla Nublar to help control the dinosaur population.

The action takes place in a side-scrolling platform style much like Jurassic Park for the Genesis. This departure from the earlier SNESJP (which used a first-person perspective) also incorporates another player. You take on various missions (like Raptor Attack, High Ptera, and T. Rex Carnage) and fight Raptors, Pteranadons, and the most fearsome animal of all, humans.

ProTips: Remember to switch to a weapon that's low on ammo before picking up clips.

JP 2 is standard jump-n- shoot action: You try to make the dinosaurs extinct, and the dinosaurs try to do lunch with you...literally. The controls also follow a simplistic pattern -- shoot, change weapons, and shoot some more.

Dark and Deadly

The graphics are typical of Ocean -- the characters are squashed, the backgrounds are lifeless, and scenes where the light changes (underground, in a cave, and so on) become too dark. Even the dinosaurs look like they went through the graphical trash compactor. Fortunately, the variety and detail of the animals in the park compensates for the lack of imagination in the backgrounds.

  • Look for strange openings in the background and foreground. Doorways are sometimes hard to see.
  • Keep the Cattle Prod charged when moving into unfamiliar territory. The Prod takes out Breen Raptors in one hit.

The sounds are superb. Eerie, haunting music enhances the sharp, realistic dinosaur cries. Each dinosaur is easily identified by its roar. A feast for the ears, especially if your SNES is hooked to a stereo.

  • Hanging from a ladder with no help in sight? Check other walls for protruding ledges or other ladders. Also check ceilings for help.
  • Spitters always spit directly at you, whether you're hanging on a ladder or crouched on the floor. Stand up when the Spitter appears, then crouch and, shoot before it gets off another shot.

Dullasaurus Wrecks

Although JP 2 is fun, you've seen this type of game play in a hundred other games; unfortunately, nothing new is added here to improve upon mediocrity. Whether or not you'll have fun depends on how good your excavating skills are.

Brown harder to kill than other park inhabitants. Shoot them, jump over them, and shoot them again from behind.
