You know I do not think there are not many games that have attempted to do what FIGHT KNIGHT here is doing. This is part dungeon crawler, part beat-em-up, and part first person exploration game. It is a very interesting mix of styles that is all wrapped up with a very cool and stylish retro style that really does make this game stand out from the rest of the crowd.
The Dark Tower!
I cannot go into full details in regards to the story here, but I can at the very least give you a little bit of insight as to what you can expect here in FIGHT KNIGHT. The game has us playing as the titular hero and in this land, there is a mysterious, dangerous and evil tower that will appear. It entices adventurers inside it with its vast amount of riches and treasure. However, no one ever returns, becoming trapped inside and twisted into an evil shell of their former selves. It is a cool concept and certainly one that I can get behind.
The Ever Rising Tower
The gameplay of FIGHT KNIGHT is hard to talk about as you need to see it for yourself to fully understand what this is all about. The game is played from the first-person point of view and you view our hero kind of like the character from that obscure game, Breakdown that came out on the original Xbox many years ago. There are different zones in the tower and each zone has its own theme, enemies, and so on to make it different.
There are plenty of enemies that you can fight in the game and there is a lot of variety here too. What is pretty neat is that while it may seem like an out and our brawler at first. However, you do also have a lot of exploration here to find various items that can help you out and also new abilities and so on. There are also some puzzles that you need to solve. So, while, fighting is the main focus, there is more to the game than just that.
Put Up Your Dukes
The actual fighting in the game is fantastic. At first, you may think that you can just go in with your fists swinging and early on in the game, you can. However, the fighting mechanics here are very satisfying. You need to block and dodge too and different enemies will have different attack patterns forcing you to change things up as you go through the tower.
Retro, But Unique
I know when some of you read that FIGHT KNIGHT had a “retro” style to the visuals you let out a groan. However, I feel while this game does have a retro style, it is a style that is truly all of its own. It is very hard to describe, but it looks like a game that would have required a very high-end PC to run if it had been released in the mid to late 90s. I love how dark and twisted the tower is and there is a lot of variety to things here too.
There is no shortage of dungeon crawlers or beat-em-ups these days, but the way that this game is bringing them together is really cool. It is a game that is a lot of fun, but I think that some people may be shocked at just how deep the overall experience FIGHT KNIGHT is providing is.
