January 2022 sees Pokémon Legends: Arceus released for the Nintendo Switch, one of the biggest games to hit the console. It feels like forever ago since sword and shield were released so getting a brand new Pokémon adventure for the Switch is something that has gotten many people excited. Today we are taking a closer look at the game and some of the things that have gotten people very excited about this latest Pokémon adventure.

Creating The First

One of the most exciting aspects of this game is the fact that it is set in the past. Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place long before the last Diamond and Pearl remakes! Actually, it takes place so far back that the Sinnoh region was known as the Hisui region.

While not tons of details have been dropped about the story, we know that creating the first Pokedex is going to be a huge part of the game. Add to this the legendary Pokémon Arceus playing a big role and it sounds very exciting.

You Still Have To Catch Them All

As is the case with all Pokémon games, you have to choose your starter at the beginning of the game. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the starter Pokémon are, Rowlett, Oshawott, and Cyndaquill. This is a pretty solid mix if you ask me. One thing about catching Pokémon that sounds really neat here is that you can catch some of them in the wild without having to battle them.

One of the things that I am most excited about is the new Hisuian forms of some of the classic Pokémon that are in the game. My personal favorite has to be Hisuian Zorua. However, others have been shown too, people online were losing their minds over Growlithe in his Hisuian form.

More Than Your Standard Adventure

So far Game Freak and Nintendo have not revealed all of the details about Pokémon Legends: Arceus as far as the gameplay goes, but we have seen some of the new things that are going to be in this Pokémon adventure. There are base camps all over the region that are going to be handy as you can craft items (like the awesome steampunk style wooden Pokeballs) and have your Pokémon rest and give your stats and findings to Professor Laventon.

The world is much larger and offers far more exploration and you can now take fall damage and wild Pokémon can even damage you if you get too close. They are not completely reinventing things here, but I do like what they are adding to the game to make it bigger in scale.

Without a doubt, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of the biggest games to be released at the start of 2022. Actually, I would say that is probably going to end up being one of the biggest games released in 2022 in general! I love the whole style of this game and think going back to the past and trying to make the first ever Pokedex is something that sounds very exciting.

Pros:

I love the new versions of some of my favorite Pokémon
The story sounds absolutely fantastic and one of the best the series has done so far
The presentation is amazing!
I like how the whole world seems so much larger in this game

Cons:

Will there be much more added to the gameplay?
You do have to wonder if the story they tell here may serve as some kind of soft reboot for the Pokémon series
