Light gun shooting games used to be all the rage in arcades and THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake takes the stellar original game and updates it for new audiences. Armed with a gun and an unlimited pile of ammo, it's your job to clear out a sprawling mansion packed with hostile enemies. High-definition graphics, new blood mechanics and a mega-tough new game mode add lots of replayability to this arcade classic. If you can't get enough zombie action and you have an itchy trigger finger, this is a must-play title.
Main Game Features
- Gun down tons of zombies and monsters
- Play solo or with a friend
- New Horde mode
In THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake, you control special agents Thomas Rogan and G, two gunmen who are sent to a mysterious mansion after receiving news of troubling experiments. When Thomas' fiancee Sophie sends him a distress call, our hero and his partner hop in their car and prepare for a bloody night of destruction. Arriving at the Curien mansion, zombies and other mutated monsters have already started to flood the entrance, leading you on an adventure where expert use of your pistol is the only hope of survival. As you explore the many rooms and segments of the Curien Mansion over the game's twenty-plus chapters, you'll encounter challenging bosses and other various obstacles that prevent your progress.
Truthfully, the story in THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake is laughable and utterly ridiculous, but that adds to the charm of the game. Similar to other light gun shooter games like Area 51, there's not a lot of time to tell a story, as cutscenes are brief in an effort to skip right to the action. The voice acting is pretty bad and the characters are ridiculously wooden, adding a campy attitude to the narrative. That said, there are multiple endings to unlock, so it's worth it to pay attention to the story enough to appreciate the changes.
As the name would suggest, THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake is a fully remade version of the arcade classic, The House of The Dead. You'll enjoy high-quality new graphics, blood, and gameplay, but with the same level layout and story as the original game. Like in the sequel, The House of the Dead 2, you can play the story either solo or with a friend using local cooperative mode. There are multiple difficulty options and scoring modes to choose from, which helps shake up the gameplay after your initial playthrough.
There are also a few other new features in the game, including an enemy gallery and Horde mode. In the gallery, you can examine full models of all the characters and bosses in the game, giving you an up-close look at their terrifying appearances. Horde mode is perfect for multiplayer gaming, as it adds tons of extra monsters to defeat. However, the controls can be a bit tough, as the on-screen cursor can be overly sensitive and hard to aim. Despite these issues, THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake is a great time, especially for gamers who enjoyed the original version in arcades.
THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake gives players a great way to take out some aggression, putting hundreds of zombies between you and your objective and letting you go wild with gunfire. The extra modes and options help with replayability, but the overall game is short and can be completed in just a few hours.
If you have a friend along for the ride, your experience will be much more enjoyable, but THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake is still a great zombie-killing time no matter how many players are involved.
