Uncharted 4

Wow! Is probably the best way to describe Uncharted 4 for the PlayStation 4. This is one of the crown jewels of a console that is known for many great exclusives. I would go as far as to say that this is one of the best games of this console generation and a truly must-play game for the PlayStation 4.

Wait, Drake Has A Brother?

The story of Uncharted 4 is probably the best in the entire series and that is saying a lot. This is a series that is known for having a fantastic narrative and amazing vocal performances and that rings true here too. This time we are introduced to Nate’s older brother Sam, who Nate thought was dead.

Nate is living a rather boring life after the events of Uncharted 3 and he is wishing for a little excitement. When Sam shows up on his doorstep, he sure as hell gets to go on an adventure that is for sure. I really do not want to spoil the story for you, but I loved it. It lets you play as a younger Nathan Drake at a point and it even shows us what happened to Nathan Drake after the events of the game.

Like A Fine Wine

I will admit that I do not think Uncharted 4 has tried to reinvent the wheel in terms of the gameplay, but in all honesty, there was no need at all for Naughty Dog to tinker with the gameplay. It is the same mixture of fantastic platforming and exploration as well as fun combat with melee and firearms. One thing that I think is fine-tuned a bit is the enemy AI. The enemy sees a lot smarter this time and they will react to the way that you are attacking them. This does make more intense firefights more difficult but in a fun way.

Hey Good Looking!

Uncharted 4 is one of the best-looking games of this console generation. Even on a bog-standard PS4 on a 1080p TV, this game is going to blow you away with how it looks. Not just how it looks, but the way it all moves to is incredible. Seriously it is amazing how good this game looks and I really think it is one of the bets the console has to offer. There is a fair bit of variety to the environments too. For example, you can be in Scotland during one section of the game which has a very distinct kind of look and then you can be on a lush jungle island. It is very impressive how Naughty Dog managed to have so many great looking locations.

The Perfect Ending

I am not going to spoil the way that Uncharted 4 ends, but in a day and age where so many movies, TV shows and of course video games have to go for that “twist” ending. It is so great to see Naughty Dog bring the saga of Nathan Drake and his friends and family to a close in the best way possible. I will admit that before this game was released, I was very, very nervous to see how the story of Nathan Drake would end. I can hand on heart say that Naughty Dog absolutely nailed it and I feel that the Uncharted series, in general, is one of the best examples of storytelling in video games.

If you have access to a PlayStation 4 and have still not played Uncharted 4, what the heck is wrong with you? I have said that this is one of the best games on the PlayStation 4, but it is one of the best video games ever made in general. It is just so well made and so much fun to play that it is an experience you will never forget. I would say that it is really, really close between this and Uncharted 2 for my favorite game in the series, but I do feel that with the way this ends the story, it takes the title of best Uncharted game, but only just.

Game Reviews

Uncharted 4 is a legendary game, an important mark in the history of great 3D action-adventure. Nathan Drake (the protagonist) has changed a lot, but he has not lost his cheerfulness and inner energy. The adventure is poignant and brimming with emotion. Sixteen hours of insane gameplay await the player.

Trust and Greatness Conquered

Uncharted 4 surprises like GTA San Andreas did in its time or The Last of Us. Companies that have created such games can count on the loyalty of fans for years to come for their former achievements.

Gameplay

The player has a hook, which will give the ability to attack the enemy from above. Hand-to-hand combat takes on a new dimension: teammates and environmental items appear. The firefights have become more interesting - the maps are filled with shelters and fortifications. Puzzles, long-range combat, climbing, riding in jeeps - what could be more interesting?

Not a minute will a player spend without being enthralled by the visuals of the game. What happens on the screen is indescribably beautiful. The game helps you travel to majestic places on planet Earth:

  • Panama
  • Scotland
  • Italy
  • Madagascar Island

Trees, flowers, and grass are flattened textures, but real three-dimensional models that play a big role in the character's interaction with the world.

Pros of the game:

  • In-depth character dialogues.
  • First-rate menu and game interface design
  • New gameplay elements
  • Unrealistic visuals with detailed textures
  • Quality cutscenes that have been compared to modern movies

Minuses of the game:

  • Too much sea
  • The last part of the series (this realization makes fans sad)

The player will remember the gameplay and enjoyment for a long time. The game series has come to an end, but how beautifully the story ends... The human story of freedom and fighter values will touch the most calloused minds, and the humor will make the most emotionally stingy people laugh. Powerful and cutting-edge graphics will remind all competitors of the importance of visuals in today's game industry.

There's really no question that Uncharted 4 is a great game, but it's also one that may not appeal to everyone. The graphics are stunning, the story is exciting, and the gameplay feels just right. It might be too easy for some gamers (I found myself dying only a couple of times), but if you can overlook that minor flaw and treat yourself to a great story and a fun adventure, we'd highly recommend this game.

All Good Things Come to An End

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a game that is easy to learn but difficult to master. It’s fun, challenging, immersive, fast-paced, and rewarding. The gameplay has been smooth since the launch of this series back in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on the PlayStation 3 (PS3).

The PS4 version of Uncharted 4 is also smooth and fluid with great graphics that really show off what Uncharted can do when it comes to visuals. There have been some issues with framerate drops during cutscenes but these are few and far between so they don't take away from your overall experience while playing this game.

The graphics in Uncharted 4 are outstanding, and there's a reason why it won't stop getting accolades. The game looks like a movie, with many of the same effects that you would see in one. It's not just the lighting or backgrounds—the characters themselves look amazing. I've seen friends compare them to real people, including their facial expressions and body language. One friend even said that she felt like she was looking at her father!

The audio is just as impressive as the graphics are; it's hard to imagine how much work went into making sure each sound effect fit perfectly with what was happening on-screen at any given time (and vice versa). The voice acting goes above and beyond what you'd expect from a video game, which is easy to appreciate when you consider how much dialogue Naughty Dog had to record for this project over several years. Dozens upon dozens of actors were all trying their hardest to make something truly special happen with every line written down.

A Somewhat Charted Territory

The story of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is good, but not the best of the franchise. It is a good length and has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end. The characters are interesting and diverse, with plenty of memorable lines that will stick in your head for weeks after playing through them. Overall, I would say that this is an amazing game with some great features to it!

The multiplayer is not as good as the single-player, simply put. It's fun, but it doesn't have the same level of polish or ingenuity that you find in the campaign. It's also not quite as fun as other shooters like Call of Duty or Battlefield, but it definitely serves its purpose well enough to justify a purchase if you're looking for some couch co-op action with friends.

I enjoyed Uncharted 4, but even though the franchise might be one of the best ever, I can see why some would think other entries are better than this one. It has a great story and characters, but it can be frustrating at times. The game is great, but it isn't perfect. If you're looking for an adventure game with interesting characters and a fun plot line, then you should play this game!

Conclusion

Overall, in my opinion, I think Uncharted 4 is a great game. Some players may find it too easy, though. But, it is fun to play and very entertaining. However, I don't think it's the best of the series, nor do I think it's necessarily worth buying a PS4 for.

If you already have the console then this is definitely an essential addition to your library and something that should be on your radar! Other games you should look to add are Tomb Raider, The Last of Us, Quantum Break and Control.

PROS

  • Gameplay
  • Story
  • Dialogue
  • Performance
  • Graphics
  • Sound Design

CONS

  • Exclusive to PlayStation
  • Minor Frame Issues

Uncharted teaser trailers always offer plenty of clues, and the one released for Uncharted 4 points to pirates, specifically around Madagascar. Capt. Kidd is known to have sailed a great deal around the Indian Ocean, accruing treasure along the way--no reason he couldn't have left something behind. I think Naughty Dog will have players follow his routes to give the game some exotic locales, and they'll tie in modern-day Somali pirates as the reason why everyone's shooting at Drake this time.
