I will admit that I did not expect much from The Sims 4: Vampires and had a feeling it would be a rather weak DLC offering from EA. Well, turns out this expansion is freaking awesome and one of the most interesting of all the DLC packs that have been released for The Sims 4 so far.

Become A Vampire

The big thing that The Sims 4: Vampires offers is, of course, the new life state of actually being a vampire. This is just so much fun and very different from being a regular Sim. For example, regular sims have to pee, eat and drink and so on. You do not do that when you are a vampire! Instead, you need to quench your thirst for blood and watch out that you do not stay in the sun for too long!

Blood!!!!

There are a few different ways you can get blood. You can get plasma packs, this weird fruit or you can feats on Sims! What is cool about drinking the blood of Sims is that you can actually ask their permission first and if you are friendly enough with them, they may let you have a little snack on their blood! That is cool if you want to be a friendly vampire, but if you want, you can just take it by force and drain them as much as you want.

What Kind Of Vampire Will You Be?

This touches on what I just said, but you can be a friendly vampire and live in harmony with the regular folks. Or you can just do what you want, maybe have your own nest of vampire buddies and make the townsfolk live in fear!!! It is a lot of fun to play both sides and the progression system of vampire powers that you get (such as changing into a bat and reading people's minds) are a lot of fun to tinker with. Having to get all of these abilities takes some serious time so you will see a lot of Sims die! This can make forming friendships and relationships with regular Sims kind of an emotional roller coaster.

Gothic Style

The new area that The Sims 4: Vampires is called Forgotten Hollow which has a real gothic look to it. The whole game does actually and you can really go wild with how you deck out your vampire. The way I did it was having a rather normal looking character, but when I was doing my blood-drinking and embracing my vampire side, I would have a more deformed face. If you watched the TV series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer back in the day you know exactly what I am talking about!

In all The Sims 4: Vampires is a great time. I think this may actually be the most fun I have had with an expansion for The Sims 4 so far. I really think if you like vampires, in general, be it in TV shows, movies, books or whatever. Then you will really be hooked by this DLC. Sims 4 fans really need to check this out, even those with just a passing interest in the creatures of the night will have a really fun time with this.

Final Score: 9/10

Pros:

  • Being a vampire is cool
  • Drink blood the way you want!
  • Lots of cool vampire and gothic style gear
  • It is a ton of fun
  • Using vampire abilities is really cool

Cons:

  • It can take a while to get the best of the abilities
  • Might not be as much fun if you are not into horror stuff

Game Reviews

Embrace the dark side of the occult and become intimately familiar with the night in The Sims 4: Vampires! Building on the base experience, this amazing game pack lets you finally transform your Sims into bloodthirsty creatures of the moon. Not only does this game pack add new gameplay features, but you'll also get to explore one of the most interesting locations in the game's history. New lifestyle decisions, recipes, and activities make this small expansion worth installing. If you've grown bored with the classic experience, spice up your nightlife with The Sims 4: Vampires!

Main Game Features

  • Become a vampire and use special skills
  • Move to the eerie town of Forgotten Hollow
  • New gameplay items, health bars, and more

Story

Keeping in line with the theme of the game pack, The Sims 4: Vampires introduces a brand new town for players to explore. However, like the main expansions, it's entirely your choice whether you want to live in the new city or just visit. For those intrigued, you can now travel to the spooky Forgotten Hollow neighborhood, created by the renowned vampire, Vladislaus Straud. As the exact opposite of a town like Brindletown Bay from Sims 4 Cats and Dogs, the Forgotten Hollow is a dreary land where nighttime lasts longer than usual. As such, this makes it a perfect place for Sims of the vampiric kind to shack up.

Forgotten Hollow includes 5 new building spaces, including several that you can call your own. Besides Vlad's home, the Straud Mansion, the Wolfsbane Manor is the only other inhabited building in the neighborhood, housing the Vatore family. If you don't want to build your own house, you can move into the Garliclauter Place or the Widowshild Townhome, which both have unique aspects. Aspiring architects can lay out their floor plan in the Fledermaus Bend lot, where they can build their very own vampire mansion!

Gameplay

As a game pack for The Sims 4, The Sims 4: Vampires includes familiar gameplay features, including the opportunity to build your own house, customize your Sims, and help them as they go about their daily business. However, the major change is that your Sims can now become vampires, bestowing many important and special abilities to try. Once your Sim is a teenager, they can turn into a Rank 1 vampire, with 4 more ranks to climb. The vampire rank can be raised through several ways, such as interacting with other vampires, drinking plasma, researching vampire history, and more. There are 25 vampire powers to unlock and use, like the ability to fly around as a bat, use mind control, and more. However, you'll also have to take on a vampire weakness to make up for the added power.

Besides the extremely cool vampire powers and Forgotten Hollow, The Sims 4: Vampires adds some new gameplay items and features into the mix. As a vampire, you are immortal, but must still satisfy your cravings by drinking blood from other Sims or using Plasmafruit. Vampires do not have to eat or drink normal food, but you will have to balance your Vampire Energy in a similar way. Over 150 customization and house building options have been added as well, so you can outfit your house in a creepy style to match your vampire! Two new gameplay items have also been added, so you can now jam away on the pipe organ, or research vampires with the vampire lore book.

Conclusion

The Sims 4: Vampires is a game pack that any fan of the dark and supernatural will have a great time playing. The cool vampire powers and new location are fun enough, but the extra customization options are the icing on the cake.
