Crab God is one of those games that has such a weird sounding title and such a weird premise that it grabs your attention right from the start. This is a game that I have a feeling could be many people's hidden gem of the year. Having had the chance to take a close look at the game recently, I was so surprised and happy by what I saw that I had to get on here and share my thoughts about it. If you love puzzle/strategy games that have a fun and cool vibe about them, I highly recommend you keep on reading to see why this is going to be such a scuttlingly good game.

Embracing The New

The premise of Crab God is a lot of fun, we play as a very regal and powerful looking giant crab that hangs out in the background, but we need to organize the great migration so that a new god of the crabs can be born. Of course, this is easier said than done and we need to make sure that our little crabs can make it all the way to the right waters so that the new crab god can be born. It is fun and charming stuff, but these guys do have a love for the ocean so there is a good message at play here too.

Too Cute To Function

The crabs in Crab God look like something out of a Pixar or Dreamworks movie! They are so freaking adorable and I love the way that their personality shines through. One of the things that is really fun about the game is that you can name the crabs and give each one of them a specific job to do. This helps you get more attached to the crabs and also gets you more invested in helping these little crabs continue on their lineage.

Making The Ocean Smile

Visually, Crab God may very well be the most charming game that I have had the pleasure to play this year. It is all bright, colorful and so nice to look at. While you need to be keeping your focus on the little crabs at the front of the screen who are making their way through the level. It is impossible not to have your attention grabbed by the big ass crab right in the back ground. This guy has a great look, very royal like and while he is quite imposing as he is so large, he also has a real friendly look to him too. They could easily make plushies and figures of the crabs in this game and make a fortune selling them.

Managing Your Crabs

No, I am not talking about the crabs you got from your last date…. Was that going to far? I am talking about the gameplay. Crab God is like a mixture of a strategy and a management game. You have your new little crabs and you need to manage them by giving them jobs. For example, you can have a crab head out to gather resources, you can have a crab be a builder and you can have a crab worship that big crab in the background. Deciding what you want your crabs to do in order to better your group is the key here. It is a great deal of fun, but this is also the kind of game that can be way more challenging than you would think.

2024 has already had some epic video games, but Crab God is one of the ones that I think could be a real surprise hit. I love the way that the developers have been so open about talking about the game and the way they are doing their part to help with ocean conservation thanks to this game is really cool. While it is cute and has a fun premise, this also is a very fun and challenging management/strategy game too so you will have just as much playing it as you do smiling at the cute crabs. Be sure to give this one a try when it is released.
