Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream

Those of us who like this series are pretty pumped for Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream. This has all the makings of a fun and charming RPG and while I think if you are familiar with the franchise you will appreciate it more, I do think that this is a game that you could just jump in with and have some fun. It is a typical KOEI Tecmo style of RPG and I mean that in a complimentary way. However, I do get that these types of games are for everyone. Still, as the game is just about finished, I thought it would be fun to preview some of the known features it is going to have.

A Strange Dream Like World

The story of Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is about one of the many adventures that Sophie has been on since she left her hometown. The idea here is that she is looking for her friend Plachta after they have become separated in this strange dreamlike world of Erde Wiege.

While I do not know all the details, being familiar with the franchise I am sure the story has a lot of heart, is fun, funny, and cute! I get the impression that anyone could probably get into the story here, but those familiar with this series will obviously get more out of it. This series is known for its great and bright visuals and this is arguably the best that this series has ever looked or sounded!

Two Teams To Battle

The combat system in Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream has been worked on and it is something that I think sounds very interesting. When you come across an enemy while out in the world, you will end up getting into a fight. You can have six people in your party and they are split into two teams. I like the idea of having two team members pulling off a unison attack. What I have always liked about the RPGs in this series is that combat is always accessible, but fun and with a hidden layer of depth.

Double Trouble For Synthesis!

The whole synthesis thing that is in Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is a lot of fun. It is like a puzzle game and there are two versions of it here. There is the standard panel system and the restricted panel system, one is harder than the other, but it will give you far greater rewards. This is a fun way for you to create new items and it adds to the overall charm of the game.

How Is The Weather Up There?

The land of Erde Wiege is a very strange and diverse kind of place. There are different regions and each one has its own type of weather. Eventually, you will get the ability to change the weather in an area. This can open up new areas that were previously unexplorable. I love this as it reminds me of the classic and earlier 3D Zelda titles.

I think that Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream looks like a fantastic game and one of the most interesting titles to be part of the Atelier series I have seen in quite some time. I love my bright and quirky RPGs and bright and quirky is probably the best way I can think to describe this game. While I think it is going to be a much better experience if you played the first game. I still think that even those who did not play the first game, but who love RPGs are going to be able to get in on this.
