Baldi's Basics Plus

Baldi's Basics Plus is awesome! While this has the horror tag to it, I would not exactly say that this is a game that is going to scare you. It has a creepy vibe to it for sure, but it was more something that I just got a kick out of rather than being ultimately scared by it. If this is ringing a bell, it is because this was already released, but this new plus version adds some cool new features as well as kicking things up several notches in pretty much every regard, I was really surprised at how much I loved this game!

90s Edutainment!

The whole “gimmick” of Baldi's Basics Plus is that it is a parody of 90s edutainment, where everything was bright, colorful, and full of weird, but kind of creepy characters. In many ways, it does for those kid's TV shows and games what Five Nights at Freddy’s does for the classic 80s mascot era fast food joints. The thing here is that Baldi and his friends want to find you and in his creepy school, you are tasked with finding notebooks and also playing hide and seek with Balid and his friends, it is a neat premise and I like the bits of lore that are sprinkled around here.

You Never Know What Is Going To Happen

Those 90s and early 00s edutainment shows really were crazy stuff and Baldi's Basics Plus manages to capture the randomness of those shows very well. Each time you play the game, everything is randomly generated so no two play throughs will ever be exactly the same. It makes for a game with near endless replayability, to be honest with you. There are also random events that can happen such as the school being filled with fog or a flood happening. It makes it so that you never really know what to expect, no matter how familiar with the game you may feel you are.

So Much To Keep You Busy

One of the most impressive aspects of Baldi's Basics Plus is just how much content the game has. I am not just talking about the way the stages are randomly generated either. The game has its main mode where you have to collect your notebooks and avoid Baldi at all costs. There is also an Endless Mode where you are basically just trying to see how long you can survive, there is also a challenge mode that you can unlock as you play the main mode and this gives you specific and tricky challenges to complete. You can even play the mini-games that are the “field trips” that the game has once you have unlocked them.

Blues Clues On Acid

The presentation of Baldi's Basics Plus is freaking nuts! It is like a nightmare version of stuff like Pee-Wees Playhouse , Blues Clues, and Dora the Explorer. Baldi is creepy, but he also has all these weird and messed up looking friends. I know that some people find the game scary, but I never did. Do not get me wrong, I love the whole messed up vibe that they have going on here, but it did not offer me the same kind of jump scares as FNaF did, but to be fair, that is a personal thing as I know a friend who said this made him jump on a few different occasions.

9.5

I only messed around a little with the original, but Baldi's Basics Plus is the real deal! This game is just so much fun and the way it is so packed with content and the random nature of things makes it the kind of game that offers you a ton of replay value, I loved the Endless Mode and that was what I spent most my time with, but I did find the Main Mode to be great too and in all, this is just a game that I had an absolute blast with. I truly was blown away by how much I loved this game!

Pros:

  • I loved the whole creepy 90s edutainment vibe that this game had to offer
  • It is bright, it is colorful and it is very weird, but that is meant as a compliment
  • The game is very random so no two games are ever exactly the same
  • I was surprised at how many modes there were to enjoy

Cons:

  • It may just be me, but I did not find this scary at all
  • We need to get this on console as well as PC!
