DCS: F-14B Speed and Angels Campaign

Reflected Simulations and ex-commander Francesco Cherici worked together and brought the DCS: F-14B Tomcat Speed & Angels Campaign, to our lives. With a war expert working with them, it was obvious Reflected Simulations had to create a banger, and when it got released, they didn’t disappoint anyone.

The Story

In this campaign, you’ll be an apprentice pilot that wants to join the Blacklions, a squadron on a mission to attack an outpost in The Marianas Islands. But to join them, you have to learn to fly the F-14B Tomcat. The arduous task of teaching you will be taken by Francesco “Paco” Cherici, an ex-commender and pilot. As soon as you learn all the nooks and crannies of what it takes to fly on a Tomcat, you’ll be ready for your mission.

The story can be rather simple, but it isn’t; It’s easy to empathize with Paco, and I’m sure you’ll love him pretty soon. Your teammates in the Blacklions are also pretty cool! Also, the campaign wouldn’t be special if it weren’t for the job done when recording the voice-overs of Paco and your Blacklions teammates.

New Missions

There are 10 missions in this campaign where you’ll learn how to fly and control the Tomcat, plus another 6 missions where you’ll be commanding your team on your mission in The Marianas. Wrapping everything up, there are several hours of fun for you!

I’ve never seen something like this in a DCS campaign. You can really see how good Francesco Cherici is at the art of war; I’m sure that the high difficulty and the amount of detail this campaign has is thanks to him!

The Majestic Tomcat

Flying the F-14B Tomcat is such an experience. Even for those who are heavily experienced in DCS, piloting the Tomcat is hard to learn, and it takes a lot of practice to land all the acrobatic maneuvers that Paco asks us to do. It can sometimes be a bit annoying, but it’s nothing that some intense practice can’t solve. Nonetheless, I’m sure of one thing; if you are a new player and want to try one of the endless lists of campaigns DCS has to offer, I recommend you skip this one for now.

This is the best campaign of DCS you can play if you are a veteran in this game. If you have a long time playing, you can’t miss this experience. Speed and Angels is one of those campaigns you won’t forget, and I’m sure it’ll be one you’ll recommend to your friends!

Pros and Cons

Pros

• The Story is top-tier
• The experience in return for learning how to fly with the Tomcat is excellent
• The dialogues are on point and Paco is such a great instructor. The tutorial is well integrated into the game without being disruptive
• The missions are engaging and it has a lot of replay value, so you’ll be playing the campaign several times just to not miss out on details

Cons

• The gameplay is hard to follow if you are a newbie. There’s no way to experience this campaign without having some knowledge of the game
