Diluvian Winds

In this turn-based City Builder, Diluvian Winds turns the idea of city building on its head with this unique game. Rather than have you build up a vast city to house refugees, or have you play the main role of a character escaping a bad situation, Diluvian Winds puts you in the role of a lighthouse keeper along the way. In this game, a huge natural disaster is causing mayhem around the world. Your lighthouse is merely a stopping point along the way for refugees seeking a safe place to live. Despite this, the player is determined to create a safe place for these people so they can rest before moving on.

A Challenging Game

Diluvian Winds is original because unlike so many other city builders, the immigrants stopping at your waypoint don’t stick around. You may only have these particular people for one turn, so you can’t guarantee the future based on what you have now.

This adds a whole new layer of challenge to this game. With no guarantee of who you will be facing, and huge waves regularly destroying parts of your building, holding things together can get difficult quickly. If you’ve ever played Banished, picture having the same survival issues, but without getting to keep the refugees every turn. To complicate matters, the player can only choose what needs to be built and who may enter the lighthouse—and they may not have room for everyone.

The game boils down to careful choices, or else disaster could befall the players and the characters within. Choices aren’t always easy, and sometimes results are unexpected. It’s much more common in games for city-building to stop because resources are unavailable, but very seldom because that resource is people.

Build in 3 Locations

The game allows you to build on the seashore, up in the clouds, or down underneath the waves. This gives you a chance to grow overtime and seek safety in unique places. Wherever you put yourself, you’ll need to keep your lighthouse flame going, otherwise people won’t be able to find you.

Beautiful Artwork

The game itself has a beautiful aesthetic to it, with a cartoonish look and a dark, moody palette. The game is filled with a host of cute characters, ranging from a Walrus for the main character, to birds of various kinds, and many other animals. The animations and mood lighting all work together to make the game very beautiful.
