Fallen Aces

A gaming experience that has you going through a crime-ridden city, there are many titles that have a similar premise. However, Fallen Aces takes that premise and creates a game that is totally immersive to play.

Story and Settings

Fallen Aces is set in a crime noir world inspired by America in the 1900s’. The game is a truly unforgettable experience with its cell-shaded graphics giving it a lot of punch and character.

It features a protagonist who returns to the underbelly of a city that is ridden with crime and all the despicable activities that take place within the shadows and sometimes in broad daylight. The game has a beautiful atmosphere that is mainly gloomy. However, the beautiful soundtrack more than sets the tone for what we see in the game.

Gameplay

Fallen Aces is an FPS game that takes things straight to the action as you’re meeting enemies and blasting their faces soon after saying hi. The action mainly focuses on the use of melee weapons and hand to hand combat mechanics. This is a nice change of pace as you really get to feel the impact of your punches as you smack the face of a smug lackey as they scramble to land a hit on you. There are cool environmental ways to further spice things up, including kicking enemies into a moving trolley or smacking their faces into a wall. The game truly focuses on close quarters and rewards players for exploring the close combat system.

Even with the strong presence of hand to hand combat mechanics, Fallen Aces still does a great job in terms of gunplay, giving you some amazing opportunities to blast away and go in guns blazing for some encounters.

Smooth animations

Fallen Aces does an impressive job with the cell-shading, giving it the feeling of something straight out of a cartoon or comic book. The game has completely original art and the enemies and mobsters were created entirely by the game’s co-developer Trey Powell.

On top of the art includes some gorgeous animations that give the game a heavily polished and tactical feeling. It feels like something you’d only find from a triple-A studio, but Fallen Aces proves that passion and a brilliant team can still net brilliant results.

There are some nice designs to the combat options including finisher style moves that blend in with the rest of the combat interactions that are found throughout the game.

A classic in the making

Fallen Aces definitely wears its inspirations on its sleeve, giving players the chance to relive the gameplay experience of games like Quake and Unreal Tournament. Fallen Aces is a totally unique spin on the classics, but it doesn’t shy away from showing its love in terms of gameplay.
