Let's Build a Zoo

Let’s Build a Zoo is a management game that asks you to construct, decorate and manage a zoo. Buy and breed animals, hire and fire zookeepers and then get really crazy and try your hand at DNA splicing. Explore your wild side and create your own animal management empire. You can get over 500 types of animals ranging from those found it all environments. Design exactly how you want it to look and get to work on creating your dream zoo. Just make sure that you follow the laws and don’t accidentally ruin everything and kill your animals with a few key mistakes. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you play it. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

So, like Recipe for Disaster, To the Rescue! and Festival Tycoon, its up to you to build the biggest and best zoo you possibly can. The fun bit in this game is the freedom that is afforded to the players in regards to exactly how you can do that. You can do everything by the books and make sure everyone has a nice time.

Or, you could go absolutely off the rails and create some bizarre nightmare park that has genetically engineered animals in it. With your initial 500 animals, you can splice them all together and create roughly 300,000 unique types of animals. You can mix a duck and a crocodile and call it a crocoduck. That’s right, if Jurassic World taught us anything, its gene splicing is a good idea.

Its up to you to deal with your fair share of weird and wonderful events while you try to keep visitors happy, hire and fire staff while importing and breeding all your strange little creatures. Might be worth trying to keep the animals all happy, alive and not eating each other too.

Visuals

Rendered in adorable 16-bit style, this game is a colorful, joyous time with super cute sprites for al the animals. Even the weird ones you can make. Everything is minimal in design but easy to define against the warm, vibrant backdrops. You can choose exactly how your zoo looks and where it is in the world. I found creating the zoo to be a surprisingly peaceful and enjoyable experience. There is something tranquil about designing a place to look exactly as you want it, and seeing all the visitors start pouring in to see it all.

Audio

With an awesome soundtrack that is a genuine blast to listen to, this game is filled with fantastic sound design. Just listening to the birds chirping, the doors opening and closing, the hustle and bustle of the park is brilliant. It might not seem like it does a lot, but you’ll definitely notice it if its not there.
