Capcom has had an incredible run in the past few years, and with this franchise, they've been incredible for years. is finally among us to offer us just what we were asking for after spending dozens of hours on this fantastic installment: more quests, more monsters, more weapons and armor, more difficulty, more hunting grounds, more mechanics, more content, more skills and the same fun as always. The result? An essential purchase for any game lover. Of course, we are talking about Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak! So now it's time we talk about this amazing expansion to what was an already amazing game.

About the game

With this introduction, it will already be clear that we are facing a "more and better" manual that does not seek to reinvent the bases of the saga or convince those who have not yet found the taste of teaming up with other players to hunt dragons and beasts of all kinds. In this way, we will continue the story of Rise right where we left it to travel to the Kingdom, a distant land where monsters have begun to behave strangely, even abandoning their natural habitats to invade other ecosystems.

From here we will investigate what exactly is causing this phenomenon while we follow a very simple and light script that we have already seen numerous times in previous titles, so do not expect surprises of any kind. Here the main plot is there to contextualize our hunts and give us the perfect excuse to launch us into action, where the soul of the series lies, so it fulfills its function perfectly.

Of course, if you’ve ever played any Monster Hunter game before you’ll know that the story is never the focus of the games. As the name implies, the Monster Hunter Franchise is all about hunting monsters, and you know no game makes it better than this. Monster Hunter Rise was already an incredible title that took us to a completely new world with new monsters and incredible characters. But Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak expands that and takes it to the next level. Adding not only more monsters, but also even a new difficulty level and more hardcore hunting missions than ever before.

Incredible monsters

The monster selection in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is so big it starts to feel like a Pokémon game. And this DLC adds an exquisite selection of monsters. The selection of beasts is impeccable, recovering emblematic enemies such as Gore Magala, Seregios, or Astalos and even allowing the luxury of bringing back Espinas, a dragon from Monster Hunter Frontiers, a game we were never able to enjoy in the West. All of them, in addition to the new subspecies of creatures introduced by Rise, give shape to a varied bestiary with very different combats, full of unique mechanics that have been wonderfully adapted to the gameplay peculiarities of this release.

Review: 9.5/10

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is one of the best DLCs we’ve seen in recent years in gaming in terms of playable content. It is to the Monster Hunter Rise community what RDR Undead Nightmare was for the Red Dead Redemption community.

9.5

A big new world, with new missions and so much new stuff to do. However, even though the game doesn’t add much to the story it’s still a must-have for any fan of the franchise.

Pros:

  • Bigger world to explore
  • Lots of new monsters
  • New mission types (New difficulty Mode)

Cons:

  • No real story
