The Wandering Village

The Wandering Village is a game for those of you that love your settlement builder style of games. As I write this the game is not yet complete and it is an early access game. Still, I thought this has a really cool premise and that it would be fun to take a closer look at this game and see what it is all about. I know that I for one am very excited for this to be finished as it has a pretty awesome premise.

Living On The Back Of A Giant!

The world that The Wandering Village is set in is a very harsh and dangerous place. These plants have started releasing deadly toxins into the world and things are bleak. However, a group of survivors has found a new home… on the back of a giant creature that is called Onbu. They will build a new home on his back and try to survive as he wanders around the world. I love the whole setting for this and it is probably the most unique story idea I have seen in a settlement builder style of game in a very long time.

Storybook Presentation

The visual presentation of The Wandering Village is great. It has a storybook quality about it and it is very appealing. It is kind of hard to explain, but the way the characters have this dark outline not only makes them easier to see, but it is what gives them a storybook, almost comic book kind of style. The creature that we are riding on is awesome and actually, the whole style of this game I feel makes it something that would be perfect for a movie.

Live With The Creature Or Have The Creature Live For You

The whole living on the back of the creature is not just some gimmick, it actually plays a part in the gameplay too. You can decide to live in a more harmonious way with the creature where you have a real and special bond. You can also pretty much enslave the creature and just have it there for your own needs. Each way will cause different problems and advantages for your civilization. This is a really cool gameplay mechanic and one I am excited to see how far they go with it.

Building For The Future

As The Wandering Village is a settlement building game, you have to try and build the best home that you can for your people. From making sure they have plenty of food to eat, to ensuring that they can live a good life and be happy. It features the kind of building and survival mechanics that you would expect from a game like this. However, as you are wandering around this wasteland of a world. You can find old technologies that you can use to advance your settlement, there are other creatures that can cause you trouble, plus there is the toxins that the plants are putting all over the world for you to deal with as well.

If you are someone that enjoys city building/settlement building games, The Wandering Village is 100 percent a game for you. I think that the game mechanics here are very solid and look like they are going to pose a very interesting and fun challenge for the player. Add to this a truly incredible setting and premise and you have one of the most interesting games of this style to be released in a very long time.

Pros:

  • The idea of living on the back of a giant creature is very appealing to me
  • The city building mechanics are deep without being overwhelming
  • I like the comic book/storybook style of the game’s visuals
  • It is pretty cool the way you can live with the monster

Cons:

  • There is no date listed for when this will come out
  • If city builders are not your type of game, I am not sure this will win you over
