Bass Masters Classics
Genesis owners haven't been left out of the pond by T∙HQ, which is reeling in devoted fishermen with Bass Masters Classic. Unfortunately, few others will play to the finish.
The Reel World
The action gets fishy in BMC for the Genesis. Basically, you must weigh in more bass than anyone else. At your disposal is a helpful bait shop, where you learn about rods, reels, lures, and boat engines. You can also purchase Fish Finders, electronic tracking devices that help you find your bass from a hole in the ground.
ProTip: Don't cast out too far. The arduous struggle to bring in the fish will snap your line.
You can pick from a larger selection of anglers than the SNES version had. You also get a practice pond and a full rundown on the day's catches from other anglers.
The graphics and sound are as murky as a Louisiana pond. You'll see a lot of water, both deep and shallow; the difference is noted with an abrupt color change. The sound is stripped down to bubbles and the noise made when you're casting your reel. Gone is the familiar click of the line drawing in.
- Listen to all the advice from the godfather of sole, the bait shop owner, no matter how fishy it sounds. Much of the information is useful.
- Watch out for other nonessential fish. You don't get credit for them.
As for control, real fishing is easier than this. The Fish Finder is inaccurate, the casting can be ridiculously off- course, and there are long boring stretches while you wait for bass to come around.
With so few enhancements, Bass Masters Classic is no classic at all, but more a bottom- dwelling mud-sucker for all but the most hardcore fisherfolk. You'll find more exciting fish fun at a seafood restaurant.

Now when you can’t get out to the lake, you can go fishing on your PC with Bass Masters Classics.
Billed as the most realistic fishing simulation ever to grace a console machine, Bass Masters Classic provides armchair fishermen with all of the entertainment of a day at the lake. Developed with the help of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS), this title simulates just about every imaginable detail that factors into a player's daily performance.
Bass Masters Classics is divided into several tournaments which players can compete in, including local, state, and regional levels of competition, leading up to the ultimate showdown at The Classic.
The general idea behind the game is to catch as many fish as possible, trying to rack up the most pounds caught overall, because the guy with the heaviest load of bass gets the glory. All of the action takes place from a first-person point of view, and requires a lot of control on the player's part. A huge database of authentic fishing equipment, including rods, reels, lures, and more is available to outfit your character.
Choose from a variety of lures and hit your favorite fishing hole. You cast the line by stopping a power meter at one of five positions more power equals more distance. After you cast the line, you must wait for a fish to strike. When it does, get ready for a fight. Once you get the fish to the boat the game is not over, as you must stick you hand into the water and grab the catch. If you can’t get a hold of it within three tries, you’ll be telling stories about the one that got away. All of this action takes place in Practice and Tournament modes. If you can’t get to the lake, bring the lake to you with Bass Masters Classics.
