Devilish

Breaking up is hard to do-especially when the fate of your kingdom depends on it!

Devilish is a captivating, greatlooking "break-out" style ball and paddle game. This time, however, the ball is a blue bundle of energy and your paddles are actually a bewitched Prince and Princess. You must swat the bouncing ball to bust your way through eight levels of weird-looking obstacles and creatures.

Great Balls of Fire

The graphics in this cart are psychedelic, bizarre, and gorgeous! The action moves vertically up the screens as you pass through waterfalls, an old castle, a volcano, an ice world, and an ancient evil temple.

The creatures you face are imaginative and nicety drawn. They put up a good fight, too. Naturally, you knock your ball at Zombies, Skeleton Warriors, and Cannibal Flowers. But guess what? You also face a thin guy named "Michael" who busts some killer 'Thriller" moves in the graveyard (Get it?). Each stage has an end boss such as the Snake Master, who blocks the balls with huge snakes, and Gamma, who looks like Batman gone bad.

The gameplay is great! To counter this mad menagerie, you can position your two paddles in four formations to hit the ball at various angles, and you can find useful power-ups including a devastating Buster Ball, that can tow three balls behind it, and a Flashing Bomb that blows apart blocks.

Devilish Speaks No Evil

If the title of this game makes you uncomfortable, don't let it. Even though the ads and packaging make the main bad guy, Gamma, look like a thinly disguised version of you-know-who, that's about it. The game itself is good Game Gear fun with superior graphics. Have a ball.

ProTips:

  • When you bust a hole through a wall of blocks, shoot the ball through it and it will bounce around inside the wall, causing major damage to the bad guys.
  • Watch for Catching Holes which swallow up the ball and then spit it out at high speed. Position the paddles to deflect the ball for maximum speed-and destructiveness.

Take a little Devil's Crush, mix it with a dash of Arkanoid, a generous helping of old-fashioned pinball, and what do you get? Devilish is Sage's Creations latest for the Genesis.

Pinball Plus

In seven rounds of vertically and horizontally scrolling pinball-style I play, Devilish pits one or two players (cooperatively) against the computer. Each round features unique and devilishly clever scenery and obstacles. All have a ghoulish theme and ghastly graphics. Pulse-pounding music and sound effects add to the speed-demon pace of the game.

Your goal is to reach the end of each round and defeat the boss. To hit a ball through obstacles and past monsters, you use two paddles-an offensive upper paddle and a defensive lower paddle. If the ball bounces back past your paddles, you lose the ball! To position it near the ball, you can move the upper offensive paddle in any direction: up, down, left, and right. You can also rotate it to face up, left, or right. The lower defensive paddle only moves left and right at the bottom of the screen in tandem with the offensive paddle. To make things even trickier, you can change the speed of your paddles while you play.

As the ball moves, it bounces off blocks that may help or hinder £ your progress by lengthening or shortening your paddles, exploding a bomb, or turning the ball into a destructive orange fire snake.

Action, Pound for Pound

Devilish is guaranteed to keep your mind sharp, your reflexes quick, and your fingers primed. It's devilishly good fun.

Devilish is also known as Bad Omen game.

Devilish is a paddle game with a background story. Once upon a time there were a prince and a princess who loved each other. But the evil jealous demon named "Y" turn them both into stone paddles. Suddenly, a blue sphere fell from the sky, becoming the ball which the paddles can now push forwards, overcoming obstacles and defeating demons.
