Military games and First Person Shooters always go hand to hand, especially since the games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are FPS titles. We've seen a big evolution in the genre in every way, gameplay-wise as well as technical, these titles have come a long way. With Call of Duty Black Ops, the visuals got to a new level of detail, but many other military games are basically as popular. The Rainbow Six series is one of those, and we've not been hearing much about the latest entry Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine.

Still, the game isn't even out yet, and there's no real concrete release date available yet, so we can't really review it yet. What we can talk about is what we know so far about the game and what you should expect. So let's get started!

Going sci-fi

Of course that after so many years of making war games, it would be too repetitive to just keep on repeating existing war scenarios. It's nothing strange for these games to go into hypothetical stories of what if or to travel into the future for more futuristic warfare. In Rainbow Six Quarantine they took the spin-off route into a different direction: Aliens.

Rainbow Six Quarantine was actually announced in 2019, a year before everyone was talking about quarantines and all of the lockdowns even started. So of course it doesn't have anything to do with the virus, or at least with this virus. In Rainbow, Six Quarantine will follow the style of the Outbreak event in Rainbow Six Siege where after an alien virus reached the Earth the Siege operators had to fight the alien menace.

Working together

Even though not much is known about this game, we do know that the gameplay is focused more on the cooperative element. Instead of going all-in for the PvP. However, it is still unclear if the game mechanics will be similar to those of games like Left 4 Dead.

It is clear though that the co-op element is the key to this game, and that three players will have to work together to finish the missions. There is still no confirmation on how the missions will be structured, or how long will they be, nor how many.

What we know so far isn’t really enough to give it a clear numbered rating, so we’ll judge it based on what we already know and what we’ve seen in previous titles. The Outbreak event was great, and there were a lot of unused opportunities. It all points to a more direct continuation of that event so it could be one heck of a game if it all works out great.

The Rainbow Six games usually have excellent gameplay with great controls and much more complex elements than what you'd expect from a basic war game. If it goes entirely sci-fi, it could be the beginning of something huge, but we'll have to wait for it. Also, keep in mind is that it is developed by an entirely different team than Rainbow Six Siege.

Pros

  • Great visuals so far
  • Interesting setting
  • A lot of opportunities
  • Great replay value

Cons

  • Not much known so far
  • Different development team
