Tower! Simulator 3

I am not an aviation enthusiast, but Tower! Simulator 3 caught my attention as it was unlike any other simulator game I had played before. I will admit right off the bat that I am completely ignorant of this series, but I do love a good simulator game and the idea of being an air traffic controller rather than the pilot sounded like it could be very interesting. I am sure some of the finer details and nuances of this game are lost on someone like me, but I did enjoy messing around with this and think that it is a cool idea for a game.

Starting Out Small

Tower! Simulator 3 does have a career mode and that is basically the main gameplay offering here. The idea of this is that you start your career as an air traffic controller at a smaller airport and you are trying to work your way up to one of the major airports. They have managed to secure the license for some major airports and they are adding more as free DLC which is pretty neat. I like the idea of working up the ladder and progressing with your career that the game puts in front of you.

Flying In The Sky

In Tower! Simulator 3 we are responsible for keeping the airport running as smoothly as can be. This means making sure that the schedule is right so that the planes are taking off and landing when they are supposed to. There is a fair bit that goes into this, but the game is not as complicated as you would think. They do throw curve balls your way such as bad weather that forces you to change things and think on the fly and this can be quite stressful and exciting. The game has some “advanced” voice recognition which I think for a game like this was such a great idea, but it does have some problems.

Get A Mechanic To Fix The Plane

There is a lot of stuff that I really like and enjoy about Tower! Simulator 3, but the game does have some problems that I hope are fixed. To start with the voice recognition stuff is rather buggy. It would mishear things that I said and it was a very frustrating experience, but I read a review on Steam that suggested teaching your software certain words, I did this and then I noticed a vast improvement, but I should not have had to do this and had I not found that guys tips, I would still be struggling. Also, I have no idea what the heck is going on with the saving of your game, but it is also rather buggy and led to me having to restart the game twice! I do like this game, but it does have some technical bugs that need to be fixed, especially as this is a full price title.

It Looks Real To Me

As I said in the intro, I am not really into the world of aviation at all, but for me Tower! Simulator 3 looks pretty damn good. Each airport has its own kind of style and I thought that all of the planes and the way that they would take off and land looked realistic. The air traffic control building I was in looked cool and it was fun to be out on the tarmac and see the planes up close. Now, while the game looked great to me, I have read that they do not have official licenses here and there is a way to get them, but you have to pay for them. I can see this being annoying if you are into planes, aviation, and all that as it may make it seem like a less authentic experience.

7.5

I was not sure if Tower! Simulator 3 was going to be a game that clicked with me as it is something I have never had an interest in. However, even though it has some very annoying technical bugs, I had fun with this. It felt like I had a super important job and I liked how when I felt I was getting the hang of it, a spanner may be thrown in the works and force me to have to think fast to fix something. I enjoyed what I played, but I do not think I will play this again until they fix the saving issue the game has.

Pros:

  • The game has a great sense of scale that makes you feel like you are there
  • There are several airports in the base version of the game
  • As well as the career mode, you have other game modes including multiplayer
  • I am sure if you are into the world of planes, you will enjoy this

Cons:

  • The voice stuff can be frustrating to deal with at first
  • The save game situation is a buggy mess and needs to be fixed ASAP!
