Wet Nightmares

I was not sure if I should talk about Wet Nightmares just yet or not as the game is still being worked on and in all honesty, there is not a ton of content here just yet. Well, even though I knew that going in, I love horror and I love lewd visual novels so when the two come together, it is always something that grabs my interest and that was certainly the case here. I played through what was on offer, mainly because when the game came across my radar, it had a couple of bucks knocked off so I thought, what the hell, and decided to give it a try.

The Cabin in the Woods

I grew up in Scotland in a rather rural area so the woods have always been something that mystified me. Wet Nightmares takes place in a creepy cabin in the woods. There have been reports of missing girls and on one stormy night, a strange looking girl shows up at our door. I get the impression that the developer was kind of going for a Samara from The Ring thing with this girl. The story is pretty dark and even in the early state that I played the game, I am very interested to see where this goes.

An Irredeemable Jerk!

One area that Wet Nightmares struggles with in its current build is the MC. This guy is possibly the most unlikable guy I have ever seen in a lewd visual novel. He is some kind of writer, but he is an abusive jerk who gets his rocks off on this young girl being miserable. Granted, the version I played is still very far from being complete so the developer may very well turn this around and I get the impression that there could be a reason why this guy is such an asshole! However, he is so bad, that I just do not see any redemption for him, but as this is a horror game, perhaps he will get his comeuppance.

The Dark And Misty Woods!

This game looks great and it has a very unique kind of vibe about it. Wet Nightmares uses what I am sure are real backgrounds with some kind of filter over them. It looks awesome and the way they have effects like mist moving around looks awesome. The girl has a kind of Samara thing about her as I said before and he walks the fine line of creepy and sad which I am sure will be played into more as the game progresses. The version I played only had the one lewd scene and it was animated very well. I do also have to talk about the sound design, it is rather bare bones as of me writing this, but they have said that full voice acting is going to be coming to the game.

Sitting On The Edge Of My Seat

As I have said about a million times, Wet Nightmares is not yet complete as I write this. That is most evident in the “gameplay” I say that because there is not any. From what I have read, different endings are going to be a major factor in the game once it is all complete. However, right now what we have going on is nothing more than a kinetic visual novel. I am ok with this as when the story is good, I am more than happy to go in the direction the developer wants.

Pros:

• The girl has a creepy, but cute look
• I am loving the creepy cabin and woods setting
• The art in the game is very promising
• The animation and sound are of a very high quality

Cons:

• The version I have talked about here has very little content
• That main character is so unlikable!
