The Martin Experiment

The Martin Experiment is fantastic stuff! I am blown away by what the developer has done here and I can see this game being a big deal as word of mouth gets around and people realize that they have to try this. What we have here is a lewd visual novel that does have some XXX stuff going on. However, this is more than just that. It has some witty writing, you never truly know what is going to happen next and the game has a very cool and somewhat unique art style.

Martin Is All Alone

The setup of the story in The Martin Experiment is that our main character is a young man who has been abandoned by his father and left all alone. Martin starts to lose it, he talks to himself, has weird thoughts and he has pretty much let his personal hygiene go straight to hell! His life is a mess…. He is a mess! Things are weird and he feels like he is losing it when a strange, but hot woman knocks on his door, and even though he does not know who she is, she somehow knows his name…. this is the start of a series of very strange events for young Martin!

Weird Getting Weirder

I do not want to go too deep into the story of The Martin Experiment as it has some fun and wacky twists and turns and some that you really do not see coming. There are four ways that the story can end and each one is quite different. I thought that the writing here was great, the developer clearly has a great sense of humor and I would liken the style of writing and humor to a game like Catherine if that makes sense. You get the sense that if just one more thing were to happen, Martin could completely lose it. However, you also feel that with a couple of right choices, things could turn out ok for Martin.

The Awesome Foursome

As I said, The Martin Experiment has four ways that the story can go, and the gameplay here has you making key decisions for Martin. For example, the chick knocks at your door, but you are standing in your underwear and you have not showered for three days! You can open the door like this or you can put some clothes on, perhaps you want to take a shower. I liked how the choices in the game felt like they mattered and it was not completely obvious what choice I had to make in order to get to a certain outcome. I am not sure if there is a lot more to be added here, but what is here is fantastic so far.

Look At The Size Of Those!

The art style that the developer of The Martin Experiment went for is awesome. It has a cell-shaded cartoon style and it reminds me of something like XIII or Persona 5 if you want a more modern example. Martin shows a ton of personality and I love the facial changes that he has. There are some very nice looking ladies in the game too and the lewd content here is a ton of fun and while it is most certainly an adult game, I think that this could actually see some mainstream appeal if things were tweaked just a tad. While the sound fits the game really well, I feel that this is a game that is just crying out for some voice acting. I do not know why, but when Martin speaks, I hear a voice like Chad from the Cartoon Network show Clarence!

Pros:

• I thought Martin was a weird, but very interesting character
• There are four outcomes to the story
• The writing is very witty and keeps you interested
• I loved the art style of this game

Cons:

• I do wish that it had more content
• I truly think that some voice acting would take this to the next level
