Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort is a visual novel game that after I finished the game, I had to really think hard about if I liked the game and what my overall thoughts on it were. It is a visual novel that is very well made and it does have a lot of things that I legit thought were great, but the most important aspect of a visual novel is the story and that is where my issues with this game lay.

Life Is A Beach

The story of the game has a premise that at first, I thought was very interesting. The main character is a college student called Soutarou and he is rather poor and he has a few different jobs that he needs to scrape by. One day, he ends up fired from a job because he was helping a girl called Umi.

Umi felt bad and hooked him up with a summer job at a beach resort. There is a catch here in that she told her manager she and Soutarou were hooking up so they have to make the manager think they are!

In writing this, Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort does sound very appealing. However, the story has multiple girls and each girl as you would expect is a route the story can take. The thing is these girls turn out to be quite interesting, but the path the sorry takes before you can get to know a girl better does not do a good job in making any of the available girls seem all that interesting.

Surf Dudes With Attitudes, Kinda Groovy

I have to say that this is a gorgeous looking game. I was very, very impressed with the way that Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort looked in pretty much every regard. You may think that I am going to go on and on about how cute the girls are, which they are. However, it is the beach resort setting that I feel makes this game stand out so much in the visual department. It just looks like such an appealing place to be. The game also has some great direction and the way the camera can move in and around the images does give it a bit more personality to the things that are happening in the story. While none of the music is going to blow you away, what is here does feel like the music fits the images, the backgrounds especially very well.

Heading Down To The Beach

Each girl that you come across in this resort is a different path and it is up to you to move the story along with the right choices. I liked the way the game has this calendar that works as kind of a hub that lets you play the route you want. My problem is that the girls in the game are great, but the setup to get you to the point where can go down one of the routes is not all that interesting.

It is not bad or anything like that, but I do feel some people may get a bit bored with the game and not see all that it has to offer. I think the way the game unfolds is ok, but it does seem like something is lacking.

7.5

I so, so want to love Koisuru Natsu No Last Resort, but instead, I have to say it is a game that I just like. For me the premise is great, but the story that follows it is a little bit lacking and takes too long to get going. The fact that the game does have fantastic visuals may get you past this, as this was what kept me going.

Pros:

  • The beach resort is a great setting for the story
  • I liked the different girls in the game
  • It looks great!
  • It has a very fitting soundtrack
  • You have many different routes to keep you entertained

Cons:

  • Each of the routes takes too long to really get going
  • I feel the story would have been better if it was shorter
