Love, betrayal, and an office setting – truly, My Husband’s Boss has it all! In all seriousness, this visual novel by first-time developer SC Stories has everything an NTR fan would ever need in an engaging story. Unless you want multiple endings, in which case, you’ll be sorely disappointed, but we’ll get to that later.
The game follows a married couple with a fading spark that’s willing to do anything to rekindle their relationship – even things that would be considered taboo by most happily married couples. As I said, if you’re into netorare stuff, this is definitely the game for you.
Linear Progression
One thing you’ll notice right off the gate is that the game has a considerably small pool of interactive decisions. Unlike other visual novels that will have you picking dialogue options and the like, My Husband’s Boss is a “kinetic” visual novel. That means there are no branching paths or different endings to see – essentially, it’s an interactive movie where all you do is press play to see the next scene.
Sometimes, picking among many branching choices and different endings in a visual novel can prove a herculean task. Imagine you’ve been playing a game for hours, only to realize the ending you wanted had been locked away hours ago because you picked “I love you” instead of “...” in a dialogue choice. That sort of thing doesn’t just happen in games like Persona 5 Royal, you know?
Sure, most of the game’s replayability is gone forever once you beat it once, but, for what it is, My Husband’s Boss is surprisingly engaging.
Enticing Scenarios
For being a first-time project, My Husband’s Boss looks great. The pre-rendered character models look great (with or without clothes, I might add,) and the same goes for all the backgrounds. Recently, I’ve been replaying Summertime Saga, and it’s refreshing to see a game where people look like people and not dead-eyed mannequins with huge bazongas. Sorry, Summertime Saga, but you know it’s true.
A minor gripe I have is that, being pre-rendered, you’d expect some of the assets to look a bit more “polished?” I know people (and what’s between their legs) are the main draw of a game like this, but some of the assets – like cars and some pieces of clothing – look like something straight out of The Sims 2.
Lies and Deception
Anyone with a passing interest in games like My Husband’s Boss sure knows what “NTR” means – and there’s lots of that in this game, trust me. The game revolves around a married couple who finds that the only way to reignite their love is to allow the wife to do some “tourism” with other guys.
It goes without saying by this point, but this content is unavoidable in this game. So, if you were hoping there was some way to play a trust-maxing run with no infidelity, I’ve got some terrible news for you, bud. However, if you’re into NTR, My Husband’s Boss manages to present the subject in a rather enticing way, appealing even to those with a passing interest in the fetish.
While the lack of player agency might be a turn-off for some, My Husband’s Boss is still an entertaining NTR game for fans of the genre.
