I have read a few negative things about Amber’s Magic Shop, but I did end up having quite a bit of fun with this. This is a lewd visual novel/dating sim style of game and it has actually seen an official release over on steam so it has a fair bit of polish about it. I liked the fantasy setting and while I get that the gameplay may not be to everyone’s taste, I did feel that there was a fair bit of content here and I have enjoyed my time with the game so far. So much so that I think I would quite like to see some of the other character endings it has to offer.
Being A Dark Elf In A Fantasy World!
The main character in Amber’s Magic Shop is the Dark Elf Amber. She was abandoned when she was a baby and she has been trained in the way of alchemy. She has moved to a new town where he is trying to start her life, open her own shop and perhaps learn a thing or two about herself along the way. I found the story to be pretty fun, it is actually based on another game so if you are familiar with that, I am sure you will get more out of the story.
Finding Your Other Half
The dating sim portion of Amber’s Magic Shop is pretty neat as you have a decent selection of love interests in the game. There are six potential love interests in the game, both male and female and as this is a fantasy game, we have some great ones such as Ruby who is a vampire, and Daniel who also wants to be a mage like Amber. Each of the love interests not only has their own story path for you to play through, but they also have multiple endings so there is a lot of replay value here.
It's A Kind Of Magic!
I really like the way that Amber’s Magic Shop fleshes out the dating sim and visual novel style gameplay. To start with as you are in a magic shop people will come to you with potions that you need to make and it is up to you to make them in order to score some XP. This is quite basic, but I think it is a fun distraction and adds another element to the gameplay. You also get to work on your magic shop and have it designed the way you like, plus there is an alignment system with each character that runs from light to dark so you do feel like the things and choices you are doing in the game matter.
Fairy Tales Alive!
I am a huge fan of the art style they have gone for with Amber’s Magic Shop. The whole game has a magical feel to it (as you would expect) and in many ways, it reminds me of something like Game of Thrones mixed with Onward if that makes sense. The whole game has a kind of hand-drawn style to the art and there is also a very nice variety of high-quality sex scenes in the game as well.
Sometimes I come into a game blind like I did with Amber’s Magic Shop, I have a great time and then I jump online to see what other people think and I am shocked that there are more than a few negative reviews. I truly enjoyed my time with this game, I thought the MC was fun and that there was such a good variety of love interests so there will be at least a couple that appeal to everyone. If you like your lewd games to have a fantasy setting, I highly recommend that you check this one out.
- I really did like Amber as a main character
- There are many different love interests
- I liked how there were other elements to the gameplay
- It has some very nice animation style graphics
- The other parts of the gameplay are not all that deep
- A couple of the sex scenes just came out of nowhere!
