Fog of War: Book One is a lewd visual novel with a very interesting protagonist, a collection of drop dead gorgeous women, and a story that made me want to know more about pretty much everything that was going on. The developer has said that they intended for this to be a three part story and so far with this first chapter, things are looking very good. I ended up playing through it all and while things can be a little uneven in some places, for the most part, this was a game that I really did enjoy my time with.
What Is It Good For?
The story of Fog of War: Book One is something that I truly do think is very interesting. We play as a character who was a soldier and part of an elite team. This guy is the ultimate badass, but as well as being a tough war hero, he is also super smart and has an eidetic memory. After taking part in many dangerous and brutal missions, he feels that he needs to leave the world of violence behind him and he decides to enroll in medical school to live a better, safer life.
Leaving The Past Behind
The thing is Fog of War: Book One throws a spanner in the works for our war hero as things are not quite what they seem. The story here is that he is trying to live this normal life and leave the world of war, violence, and death behind him, but there is something going on that is threatening to pull him back in! Of course, trying to live a “normal” life also means trying to find a special someone and that is part of the story too. I also liked how we got flashbacks of his time in the war too.
Knowing When Less Is More Fog of War: Book One is pretty much your typical lewd visual novel and the stuff that it does well, it truly does very, very well. However, with that being said, as you progress through the game there are a couple of annoyances. First of all, the speed of the text is very slow and can lead to you mashing the button and missing something. Also, for the most part, the writing is great, but there are some scenes that are too long winded and go into way too much detail in explaining things and then there are other scenes that seem really cool which zoom by and feel like they needed to be developed a bit more. It is not bad or game ruining or anything like that, but it is something I hope they work on for book 2.
The Spoils Of War
Even before I started reading the synopsis of what Fog of War: Book One was all about, I knew I was going to give the game a try because the character renders I saw in the trailer looked amazing. What ties this whole thing together are the beautiful character renders. They have done an amazing job here making sure that we only have hotties in this world and I love that. There are a few sex scenes and they do have animation and I feel that they are animated very well. The game does have enough lewd and nearly lewd scenes and images so you always feel like you never have to wait too long in between them.
While I would never in a million years say that I feel Fog of War: Book One is the perfect lewd visual novel. I do feel that this game has way more positives than it does negatives. The story has some great and interesting moments that legit have me waiting for Book Two to come out. The visuals are amazing and I thought that the main character was very cool to live through. While the story does have some pacing issues, for the most part, I feel that they have nailed this.
Pros:
- I thought the main character was cool
- The stuff with the horrors of war was well done
- There are many great looking ladies in this game
- The sex scenes are awesome
Cons:
- Some of the scenes go on a bit too long
- Not everything needs to be explained in great detail!
