Lightning Warrior Raidy

Lightning Warrior Raidy may not have been translated into English until the 2000s, but this game was actually originally released all the way back in 1994! It is a lewd dungeon crawler with a few visual novel elements thrown in for good measure. It would be so easy to say that this is not a good game, but I feel that is pretty harsh. It is more just a product of its time and there is a bit of retro charm to it all.

Raidy, Saving The Babes!

The story of the game is your typical fantasy affair and I like it. As the title suggests, Lightning Warrior Raidy has you playing as a badass warrior called Raidy and Raidy is the most fearsome woman around. She makes her way to a small village one day, but she is shocked to only see a bunch of older people.

The reason for this is that monsters from a nearby tower have been kidnapping all the hot young ladies! Raidy is having none of this and decides to head there to defeat the monsters and rescue the babes!

Take That You Foul Beast!

The gameplay on offer here is a real throwback. I would say that even by 1994 standards, Lightning Warrior Raidy is a rather basic dungeon crawler. You move in the first person through the dungeon. You usually have to find an item, kill some monsters, find a boss, kill the boss, and move onto the next part of the tower. The combat is pretty basic and you only ever fight one enemy at a time. She can use a pretty badass magic attack that is so powerful, it can cut down most of the bosses pretty quickly. That may make the game sound easy, but the game forces you to do around 30 minutes or so of grinding in each level! This can make things more tedious than need be and in a game that is already pretty basic in every regard. Being forced to grind like this is sure to make some people reach for the power button.

There Sure Is A Lot Of Grey Here!

As far as the visuals of Lightning Warrior Raidy go they are a bit of a mixed bag. The actual dungeon crawler sections of the game were basic even by 90s standard. It seems like you go through the same grey stone corridors over and over again, it gets pretty old, pretty fast. The monster designs are very well done, but there are too few of them so they repeat very quickly. The bosses look great and so do the bits of hentai that are here. The game has some great artwork and when you face a boss, no matter if you win or lose, you get a very well-done hentai image. There could be more of these, but what is here is very well done.

If you look online more than a few people are not too keen on what Lightning Warrior Raidy has to offer. I for one think it is not a bad game, but it certainly feels like a game from the 90s. Even by 90s standards actually, the game is very barebones and basic.

Pros:

• I thought that Raidy was a real badass character
• Some of the still images look great
• While there are not many of them, the monster designs are great
• It is a very easy game to get into
• I did like the story

Cons:

• The dungeon crawling is made less fun by the very basic visuals
• The grinding feels tacked on to extend the game
