The Gift Reloaded

Even though The Gift Reloaded has that dreaded abandoned tag, I was in the mood for a lewd visual novel and I liked the idea of what it was going for so I gave it a shot. I have to say that I think with just a little bit more tweaking and work that this could have been something really cool. It is a game about “mind control” which I thought was pretty interesting and it deals with it in quite a unique way.

A Very Special Power!

The premise of The Gift Reloaded is what I found the most interesting. We play as a guy who is about as much of a regular Joe as you can get! He has a very average life and he is spinning his wheels and not going anywhere. That is until he comes across this very special drug that allows him to control people’s minds! Now, this has been done in lewd games before, but I like how this one has a bit more depth to it and goes for a slightly different approach.

Getting What You Want

Hey, do not get me wrong, The Gift Reloaded still has our MC using his mind control powers in order to get what he wants from the various hotties in his life. However, what I liked about the story being told here was the way that it went that extra step further by having our MC use his new powers not just for sex, but for other reasons as well so that he can really get what he wants out of life. I thought that this was a great idea and if anything, I wish the story leaned into this more than it did.

Sticking With What Works

The main reason that I was drawn to The Gift Reloaded was that I thought this was much more of a standard kind of lewd visual novel. I watched a brief video online and it looked like your typical, pick what you want to say and do kind of experience and that is exactly what I was looking for. When the game is doing this, it works well, you have different choices to select in regards to what to say as well as different places to go. However, for some strange reason, after a while it opens up and wants you to kind of “explore” I found this quite jarring and not needed at all. They should have just stuck with the lewd visual novel stuff in my opinion.

One area in which I think The Gift Reloaded falls a bit short is the presentation. The character renders in this game are just okay. They are not bad, but at the same time, they are not amazing either. They have a kind of low quality look to them, actually, the whole game looks more like a game from 2015 than 2021. There are some real jerky animation style transitions too which I think are supposed to resemble movement. It is not the worst looking game I have played, but the visuals are not exactly going to keep you interested to plow through this.

Pros:

• The MC and the way he uses mind control was fun
• They have some interesting characters here
• When it is playing as a lewd visual novel, it works very well
• The shower scene was kind of hot

Cons:

• The presentation feels very dated in comparison to what other lewd games look like
• The switch in the gameplay hurts the game more than it helps it
