With Assassin's Creed: Valhalla right at the corner, Vikings could become really popular once again as a theme for video games. After all, we even had a God Of War with a Vikings theme. But if you're in the market for an adult Vikings game, then Vikings Daughter could be just for you. Especially if you're looking for something different than most adult games, and something more 3D and less anime visual novel.
An abandoned village
In Vikings Daughter you're the son of a blacksmith and you are tasked to deliver some weapons to a village. Once you arrive there you find that this village is now almost entirely deserted except for the beautiful daughter of the chief. You find that this is now a dangerous land and that you learn how to combat to become respected and to be a strong and respected Viking.
Usually, you wouldn't even expect a complex, real-time, combat system in an adult game like this. And since this isn't a visual novel, but rather a complete 3D game developed in Unity, there's a lot more to it than just the sexy parts. There's a full fighting system with different weapons to choose from and to master, as you defeat your enemies. And there are many more mechanics very Viking related.
A Vikings life
Vikings were completely harsh and violent people, and they went from town to town destroying and raping their way in. And there's a lot of that in this game, even though a lot of them are completely optional. There's the entire slave market mechanic since Vikings were well-known slave-traders. Become the most feared and respected Viking, and to do that, you have to go through every aspect of a Viking's life.
The game also features a playground mode, which is actually more of a gallery. It lets you play and replay all the scenes you want at any given time, and you won’t even have to unlock them, they are all unlocked from the start. So if you truly are just looking for the sexy scenes, then you can use the playground mode. But there’s always the story mode available if you’re looking for a more complete game.
Vikings Daughter presents an ambitious game that's aiming a little bit too high for its own sake. It's still an unfinished game, and the progress is going very slow, at a point that it sometimes seems like they're not making any progress at all. Still, they do deserve some praise for aiming to make a real, fully playable game complete with fight mechanics, economy, and more.
It's a great project with lots of potentials, but at this pace, it is uncertain if we'll ever really see the full game. The graphics are great, sure, the world may look like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but the characters and the animations look much better. Even though it is still not finished, it's great to see so much effort put into this game, the developers are really working hard on this one. Building the game from scratch using Unity can be harder than you might think.
