Today we are looking at a dating sim called Comic Party. This is a game I have a lot of fond memories of as I played the Dreamcast version back in the day because my buddy imported the limited edition that came with the little figuring. While the Dreamcast version was fun, it was sadly missing all of the XXX content. Do not worry though as it is the PC version that we are taking a look at today.
Stan Lee He Is Not
The story of Comic Party is a ton of fun. The game is about a guy called, Kazuki who has a pretty boring life. You are just kind of going through the motions until one day it is like all of your dreams have come true. You get asked to be part of this thing called Comic Party where you will get to showcase your artistic talent to the world.
Working as a comic book man is awesome and all, but at the end of the day you are still a guy with some needs and you need to find a girl to get it on with to truly make sure that you are living that good life. The story has a ton of charm to it and for all the XXX content that it has, you will also smile and feel good about playing this.
Keeping Him On Track
The game is best described as a point and click or a time management style of game. You need to make sure that Kazuki is doing the right thing. Comic Party takes place over about a year and each day you have to go to class, but you also get to complete one other action. This can be a range of different things from working on your comic to trying to talk to someone. On weekends, he gets to do two actions as he is not in class.
You need to try and get your comic done, sell so many copies, and try to find a girl that you can hit it off with. You need to try and learn each character you talk to and pay attention to what they say so that you can give the right response so that you can move onto the next section. I know that playing a year sounds daunting, but you will be surprised at how fast it goes.
Take Me Back To 1999
As I said, I played the Dreamcast version of Comic Party, but I must say that the PC and especially the PSP version do look better. What I love about the way that this game looks is that it has a very late 90s to early 00s anime kind of style going on and it is fantastic. It is hard to explain, but anyone who was watching anime or playing anime-based games back then will know exactly what I mean.
There is a great soundtrack on offer here too. While the game has some nice music as you play it and the Japanese voices are well done. It is the intro song that always does it for me!
I have to say that Comic Party holds up very well and I actually went on eBay as I was writing this and managed to snag one of those collector’s editions for the Dreamcast for dirt cheap! Just remember if you want all of the “good stuff” you need to play the PC version as it is not on the Dreamcast of the PSP.
- The game is about comic books and that is awesome
- I liked the main character as he was quite relatable
- It still looks great after all these years
- I liked trying to manage his life so he was happy
- Plenty of awesome XXX content to have fun with
- I do wish the console versions were not censored
- While good, the voice samples can sometimes be pitched way too high
