Dispatch

It took me a while to get to Dispatch, but let me tell you, this game did not disappoint. If you love superheroes, I would go as far as to say that this game is a must-play!

More Than A 9 to 5!

Ok, I am going to try and be vague about the story here as it truly is incredible. Our main character is a man called Robert Robertson the Third, and he is… or was a superhero called Mecha Man, until his mech suit got destroyed. He ends up taking a job as a superhero dispatch worker, and he is put in charge of the Z Team, which is a team of villains that are trying to go good. The story is not just about the heroes and villains, but it is also deeply personal, and it honestly had me hooked right from the start.

Say What You Mean And Mean What You Do!

If you have played other narrative-driven games like The Walking Dead or even Life is Strange, Dispatch is kind of similar. You get many key choices to make in what you say to other characters and what you do as well, and some of these can result in radically different outcomes and move the story along in a completely different direction. There are also some quick time events and even a hacking-style mini game as well. I think for a game that is all about the story, it does an amazing job keeping you on your toes.

Netflix, Amazon Prime. Disney Plus???

I hand on heart think that this is as close to a game being like a TV show as you can get, well, to be fair, the other game series I mentioned before are kind of similar. To start with, this game looks amazing; the cell-shaded look puts it up there with the likes of Invincible! But, as well as looking incredible. This game is brought to life with an incredible voice cast, including the likes of Breaking Bad legend Aaron Paul, who voices our main character. Also, my video game crush, Laura Bailey, who you may know from the likes of Spider-man 2 on PS5, is here too.

Pros:

• The whole story was great, and the humor was awesome
• I was blown away by the presentation
• My choices felt like they really mattered

Cons:

• The Nintendo Switch 2 censorship issue is not fixed
• I need a physical collector's edition of this!

Dispatch is a cartoon-style visual novel in which players take on the role of a former superhero named Mecha-Man. His real name is Robert, and he’s not a “former” superhero because he turned to the dark side. In a battle with a monster, he hopelessly ruined his superhero suit, and now he’s forced to switch careers and become an office rat. And the team he’s been put in charge of consists entirely of former villains—Sonar, Shroud, Coupé, and Blazer. Each of them dreams of becoming the leader of Team Z and is doing everything in their power to oust Robert from that position. You’ll have to balance monitoring dangerous situations in the city with managing the atmosphere within the team.

Game Features

• Every decision matters for the plot’s development. Any phrase you say can grant bonuses to each character, such as +1 to fearlessness or +3 to invulnerability against monster attacks
• The most exciting part is the chance to start a romance with the attractive women around you. It’s crucial not to miss the right moment when they’re ready to get close to you, or that chance might never come again
• To maintain healthy relationships, you’ll have to fire some people, and they might start seeking revenge
