Morningstar: Book of the Fallen

With a very cool modern fantasy setting, Morningstar: Book of the Fallen is a lewd game that I think is pretty damn awesome. This game is just so “cool” there are not many lewd games that manage to be sexy, but also cool, but this is one of them. Mixing fantasy with the supernatural is something that I love and this game pulls it off very well. I also have to give them a ton of credit for trying to do something a bit unique in regards to the gameplay too.

For the Love of Magic

Think of Morningstar: Book of the Fallen as a remake or reimagining of another lewd game called Love of Magic. The game has us playing as an MMA fighter who is gearing up for the fight of his life. However, he discovers something about himself and ends up being thrust into a world of angels and demons. Honestly, the story here is fantastic! The pacing is good, the writing is good and if you have played Love of Magic, this is a great improvement over the way that the story in that game was presented to you.

The Directors Cut

If you have played Love of Magic, you will notice that the developer has learned a great deal and as a result, Morningstar: Book of the Fallen is just a much better game as far as the story goes. Characters in the previous game had really convoluted backstories and some had ultra grating personalities. This time around, they have made sure that the characters are easy to understand and that things are not too complex. This is a prime example of less being more. I feel that they have trimmed a lot of the fat the original story and characters had and as a result, we have a story that just flows so well with a whole bunch of interesting characters that you love and hate.

Three’s Company

Just like the story, Morningstar: Book of the Fallen has done so much work on the actual gameplay. We have a lewd visual novel with RPG style stat building that is built around a combat system with a match three game. That may sound kind of crazy, but trust me when I tell you that this all works and it works amazingly well. The match three game does have some extra tricks and items you can use and perhaps you could argue the game could do a better job of explaining that to you. However, I do think the trial-and-error aspect of this does add some excitement to the battles. I found the whole flow of the gameplay to be fun and the match three combat was challenging, but not frustrating.

Supernaturally Spooky

I just love and I mean love the whole look and vibe that Morningstar: Book of the Fallen has going on. If you have seen the TV show Supernatural, that is the kind of vibe you get with this game. We have a whole bunch of great looking characters (although some camera angles can be a little unflattering) some fantastic environments and some super hot XXX content too. I love the way the game also has some cinematic flair with the clever way it uses animations in certain scenes. I hate to keep referencing Love of Magic, but the presentation here is again another huge step up from that.

9.5

I played this one a little while back, but I am going to play it again as this is getting a full release on Steam. Morningstar: Book of the Fallen is a truly great lewd game. It tells a fantastic supernatural story with fantasy elements and it has some awesome gameplay that is built around a match three puzzle system. I came into this expecting to like it, but this was just so much better than I could have even imagined it being.

Pros:

  • I loved the supernatural/fantasy setting of the game
  • There are many well written and interesting characters
  • I liked the pacing of the story
  • The gameplay is fun and mixes different gameplay styles

Cons:

  • They could perhaps explain the match three stuff a little better
  • Some of the camera angles can make a couple of characters look a tad odd
