Princess X: My Fiancee is a Monster Girl?! is an adult only visual novel with a list of positive aspects that’s as long as its name. The game revolves around naughty monster girls similarly to the developer’s other title Mamono Musume except this time things are a hell of a lot more terrifying!

Monster Girls Are People Too!

The game features an incredibly detailed and touching story that’s all about discovering the character and soul of a person despite their potentially terrifying appearance. The game starts off with protagonist Shinichi Mikuriya as he goes through his mundane day to day life before finding out that he’s been shipped off to marry one of four completely unique princesses who are all half human, half scary nightmare fuel.

As you progress through the story you have to make different choices to see which one of the four princesses will be your eternal waifu while navigating funny, tense and often erotic situations. There’s plenty to enjoy here as the game features wonderful artwork, voice acting, writing, humor and just about everything else you could possibly want from a surprisingly long visual novel. Total playtime is more than 20 hours as you try to discover every possible ending, courtship and of course, 18+ rated sex scene.

Gameplay

Despite the comedic and sexy nature of the game, the story goes a lot deeper in actual emotional maturity than you’d expect. The game starts off with the protagonist being pretty hostile to each of the different girls solely due to their appearance. He really doesn’t like any of them and it creates a few problems as you go along. One of the princesses for example, is part of a culture where she must take her own life if the protagonist chooses to reject her hand in marriage. This drops all pretenses of erotic comedy and really forces you to think about your actions and choices in the story. And that’s what the game is all about.

Learning to look past the half-monsters and dirty themes to take a good look at who you and others are as people regardless of any weird appearances or situations. It has a good message and it’s all brought perfectly together with production qualities worthy of a deep game such as this.

The only real drawback to this game is pretty typical to the visual novel genre. It can be hard to figure out choices and branching paths as the dialogue options can be somewhat vague at times. Alleviated by a good spoiler free walkthrough.
