Reclusive Bay is a lewd sandbox/visual novel hybrid style of game that I really did enjoy. It has a real mystery thriller type kind of story going on and for the most part, I feel that the developer pulls it off quite well. Now, while I did enjoy my time playing through this, at the same time I can say that I see why this may not be the kind of game everyone would enjoy. The story is slower paced and the game does struggle a bit with what style of game it wants to be.

Bringing Back The Past

The story of Reclusive Bay is the strongest aspect of the game in my humble opinion. You are a young guy who gets into an accident that sees him in a coma for several months. Sadly, your father passed away in the accident, but he did leave you a restaurant in the strange town of Reclusive Bay for you to have. You head there to try and start a new life and put back the pieces of your old one.

Who Are You?

A huge part of the story that Reclusive Bay is telling us is about how you lost your memories. You start to put them back together and you realize that the accident you were in may not have been an accident after all. Also, this town you are now calling home is not what it seems and there are many strange, dangerous, and interesting people for you to interact with as you figure out what is going on. It is a real slow-burn style of story with many different characters and bits of the story being given to you a little bit at a time. It makes you pay attention and when a big reveal does happen it feels much more impactful as a result. However, on the flip side of this, I get that this is not for everyone.

Pick A Lane!

While I really do enjoy the story that Reclusive Bay is telling. I do think that the gameplay is a little off. It is not bad or anything like that and I have played many lewd sandbox games and visual novel style games before, but it is like this game does not know which one it wants to be. The point-and-click adventure style gameplay that makes up the sandbox portion of the game works well enough, but stuff like the cash system and the day and night cycle feel kind of pointless. The visual novel elements work well, but there are many choices that do not feel like they matter. I think the game would have been better if they just went in one direction either be a straight up visual novel or a full sandbox style game.

The Ladies Love This Town!

I love the visuals of Reclusive Bay and there are many great looking ladies here with Cascade being a personal favorite of mine. The whole town has an interesting look and the character renders have a lot of polish to them and are very well done. I was also happy with the lewd content that the game had to offer, not just because of how great it looks, but in how frequently it gives you it too. Even the UI is nice, clean, and easy to navigate as well.

I had a good time with Reclusive Bay and got quite invested in the story that was being told here. I think that the developer has a real knack for story-telling and I think that as a result of this the game may have been better if they had made this a full visual novel and not done the sandbox style elements of the game. If you enjoy lewd games that are story driven and offer a slower paced kind of experience, you will find this to be a great time.
