The people at Key really are the best when it comes to visual novels and Rewrite here shows why. This is one of those games that proves you do not need to fill a visual novel with sex in order for it to be good. Do not get me wrong, this still has a lot of romance in it, but it is the kind of “superhero” story that the game tells which gets you invested.
As is the case with all visual novel style games I do not want to spoil the story of the game for you guys so I will try my best to just give you the highlights. Like other visual novel-style games, going in knowing as little about the plot as possible is the way you will get the most out of this. The story of Rewrite is about a high school student called, Kotarou who has superpowers!
He uses these powers for good and him along with a few cute girls from his school have their hands full. He ends up being involved in this war that features other people with superpowers and another group who are all about familiars. The story is great, it really is and while there is plenty of romance here, you also have a lot of action too. The presentation is nice and clean, but I do wish some of the backgrounds had a bot more going on.
Be Your Own Hero!
There is a lot of choice for you in Rewrite. Some visual novel games just have you reading the story and that can still be great. This one though gives you plenty of things to do. You have many choices which you can make which can lead you to many different outcomes. This gives you a lot of replay value as you have different paths and endings that you can experience.
More Than Words
One of the things that I like in addition to the story and characters is how the game gives you more things to do. You do have some mini-games and there is a kind of point and click adventure thing going on too in regards to your GPS that you have in the game. It may not sound like much, but it all helps to make this a much more interactive kind of experience.
If you have always wanted to get into a visual novel, but have never been sure where to start I would suggest that Rewrite is the perfect place to start. Not only is this a great visual novel in that it has a well-written story and has any different paths. It is actually one of the more interactive visual novels out there too.
