Song Of The Prairie

Song of the Prairie has grabbed my attention for a few reasons, an achievement considering the general outlook was, "oh, just another farming sim." The first is that the narrative follows life after a hero has defeated a demon. The second is the game visually is one of the most detailed indie life sims I've seen as of late. Finally, there is meticulous attention to the varied farming mechanics.

To say I'm intrigued by what's on offer in Song of the Prairie is an understatement where the beautiful game world looks enough to reel in a player base. But of course, the reality of how the game plays often differ from how it looks. So we better dive into this farm world and see how our retired hero's life unfolds as he settles down and becomes the kingpin of rural living.

Home on the Range

Players can be immediately wowed by Song of the Prairie, standing up as a farming sim that makes a gracious effort at making the game visually appealing. The gorgeous 3D environments are far-fetched from your typical indie farm game, opting out of the pixelated formula we see so much these days. Even though you've got a town to build, you'll only want to explore and find peace in your environment.

But alas, there's a town to restore! This plot of land was abandoned when your character was questing to defeat evil. Now there's peace; you'll retire here to return the land to its former glory, planting crops, raising livestock, and other trivial creation and crafting mechanics. It's all standard in gameplay, so can players continually enjoy themselves doing the same thing over again?

Yes, Song of the Prairie offers a delicate balance of zen-like gameplay and varied activities to keep players enjoying building their farm. You'll be able to date other game characters, create a flourishing life, find challenges with harvesting activities, and cultivate some superpowered animals. Naturally, you'll hit an endgame where your town is thriving, and there's not much else to do. Still, the journey of getting it is satisfying.

Players will find reward in building a farm to stand the test of time, creating their own story that spawns off the original narrative of a retired hero. Near-endless customization options facilitate that notion and even more things to acquire when exploring the game world. Song of the Prairie is a dream game for anyone loving the farm/life sim genre.

Enjoying the Golden Years

Anyone looking for an immersive casual game as entertaining as it is rewarding can find much love in Song of the Prairie. There's a lot of focus on bringing a game world to life, focusing on the visuals to create that escapist sanctuary we all crave. Despite some shortcomings in the activities, the game is a decent homage and mixture of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the famed Stardew Valley.

You might run into some dialogue issues or run out of things to do. But ultimately, spending time in Song of the Prairie is a pleasant experience bound to appeal to casual gamers and life sim enthusiasts.
